INTERNET CLAIMS PRINCE IS DEAD

July 15 2010

Minneapolis, MN – Every decade has its own voice. Every generation has an identity and a familiar cultural touchstone that generally dissipates as that group grows into adulthood and finds themselves preoccupied with other things. The people who madonna like a virgin
represent that voice also often fade along with their audience, aging themselves and finding their connection with the people who made them successful fading away. While such declines are often sad and melancholy and even on occasion tragic, they are necessary for culture to move forward, a kind of purging and rebirth.

Through the 1980’s music was the major cultural touchstone, particularly pop music, and though many reigned supreme throughout the decade a select few became true royalty. One of those elite musicians in the decade was Prince who sold millions of records and carved a very unique profile for himself. Though many people will cite Michael Jackson or Madonna as the major players of the decade, Prince’s hits, influence, and sheer level of production made him a powerhouse. Throughout the intervening years his production slowed and his influence all but evaporated, but his status as one of the biggest names of the 1980’s allowed him to retain a great deal of affection. Alas, that appears to have finally come to an end as word across the internet suggests that the Purple One has finally passed into the great beyond.prince

“Prince Rogers Nelson born June 7 1958 died this week of as yet unknown causes. Prince reportedly died peacefully in his Minneapolis home which has also doubled as his music studio. With more than 100 million records sold since his debut in 1976, Prince stands as one of the most successful musical artists of all time,” read an internet report. “With his most recent album, now posthumous, just days away from being released Prince proved his longevity and staying power over more than three decades of performing and recording. Prince is survived by two ex-wives.”

Reportedly his skybox at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome will be donated to fellow Jehovah’s witness followers.prince guitar

“Few people will cite Prince as the guy they remember from the 80’s but everyone who has any familiarity with the decade will immediately recognize his songs and the songs he worked on. Keep in mind that Prince was also instrumental in the careers of people like Sheila E. and Morris Day and the Time so his influence wasn’t simply isolated to his personal work and that really expanded his influence,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “He may have seemed anachronistic in the modern age, taken over by much younger and much more progressive artists, but many of them, including people like Lady Gaga, owe a huge debt to Prince, something they would likely acknowledge. I’m sure the public will miss him but so will those whose careers were influenced by his early work. Good night sweet prince.”

Prince’s most recent album, 20Ten was due to be released sometime this month.prince lovesexy

“He apparently has this huge back catalogue of music that hasn’t been released but may now that he has passed on. Like Michael Jackson, he’s likely a lot more profitable dead than alive and there will be more than a few people suddenly jumping on the Prince bandwagon now that he’s gone,” continued Chambers. “It’ll be interesting to hear the music, at least at the beginning but eventually it will start to get tiresome pretty quickly. Hopefully there will be a few gems in there but I’m not going to hold my breath on that. Anyways, it was a good run

Despite rumours to the contrary the internet is still going strong.
