KEVIN SPACEY TO PLAY SOME GUY IN SOME MOVIE
June 25 2010
Hollywood, CA – For a brief period in the mid-1990’s Kevin Spacey was a huge star. After a decade of hard work in either unseen movies or unseen roles he finally hit the big time in 1995. With three major films that year, ‘Outbreak’, ‘The Usual Suspects’,
and ‘Seven’ as well as an Academy Award the actor had truly hit the big time at the tender age of 36. A number of high profile and highly acclaimed roles followed over the next few years culminating with another Oscar for his towering performance in ‘American Beauty’.
From that point on one would think that Spacey would have had his choice of roles, perhaps carving out a career like other Hollywood legends before him. As a leading man and as an acclaimed performer there were many directions for Spacey to go but he ultimately went nowhere. Falling back to his roots, Spacey began to appear in movies few people saw and made small appearances in bigger films. Only one film, the poorly received ‘Superman Returns’ showcased the actor as many people saw him, but that was short lived and ultimately fruitless. Though his talent is not in question, and his opportunities seemingly unlimited, Spacey’s film career has been a little more than underwhelming. Now that actor appears to be continuing that trend by appearing as a guy in some movie that will come out eventually.
“I’m going to be in this movie about this guy who does a bunch of stuff. I don’t really remember the details, I mean I just glanced over the script. The guys behind it told me that the movie was going to be shot in England where I live now so it seemed like a good thing and I said yes,” Spacey told Scrape TV News exclusively. “I know the script is a little over a hundred pages long which is about right for a movie. I’m looking forward to the production, I’m sure it will be good no matter what it’s about. The director seemed like a nice guy.”
Spacey had no details on when or if the movie would be released. He also stated that he will star alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. who was rendered unable to read scripts a number of years ago.
“I first noticed Spacey in ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ and was really blown away by him. Everyone points to Alec Baldwin or Al Pacino or even Jack Lemmon in that movie but Spacey’s role as this bumbling, marginally intelligent office manager was so subtle and carefully drawn that I thought we had just seen something special. Turned out I was right,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “He was great right up through ‘American Beauty’ but then something happened. I can’t even speculate as to where things went awry but really nothing that he’s been in has been any good in the last decade. They’re okay and everything just not as good as they could have been.”
Spacey’s last respected role came as the voice of the computer GERTY in the acclaimed ‘Moon’ which was released last year.
“At his peak you could almost have looked at him as a modern day Humphrey Bogart. Like Bogart he doesn’t have traditional good looks but he can fill the screen and keep the audience engaged throughout the movie, we just haven’t seen that of late. We haven’t much of anything to be honest,” continued Temple. “I’m still rooting for him though. I want the old Kevin Spacey back so hopefully this new movie where he plays this guy will turn out to be good, whatever it is.”
Spacey will next appear as some guy in the movie ‘Father of Invention’ alongside Heather Graham and John Stamos, neither of whom have ever read a screenplay even for fun.
