TERRENCE HOWARD JOINS LAW & ORDER: LA, FOR NOW
July 30 2010
Los Angeles, CA – For more than two decades one show was defined and redefined the police procedural. One of the of the oldest and most well worn genres in television history, police shows have been the meat and potatoes of the medium since the
beginning. When it first debuted on September 13, 1990, ‘Law & Order’ was an immediate hit that forever altered the structure and nature of police shows. Showing all aspects of the criminal justice system the show gave a revolutionary perspective on the system that keeps us organized and safe.
Because of that success, which included multiple successful spin-offs, it came as a shock to many when the show was cancelled earlier this year. Legions of fans were outraged and industry observers were stunned, but immediately following that announcement much of the outrage was abated with the announcement of ‘Law & Order: LA’ as a replacement program. Slated for September, the new program has been one of the most watched and anticipated of the upcoming television line-up with rumoured casting an almost daily event. Now the program has added one more name to the cast in the form of Terrence Howard, best known for his roles in such films as ‘Crash’ and ‘Iron Man’. Howard will take on the role of a Deputy District Attorney until he is eventually fired, or walks off the set in a huff.
“T is down for the new show. He’s really excited too. He’s always liked the older shows and he said he’s fantasized about being on them every now and then. When he heard the show was casting he was all up in their faces with demo tapes and was like totally into doing the role and everything,” said a spokesperson for the actor. “The good thing is that it isn’t a full time gig and T will be able to do movies as well. It’s totally the best of both worlds and its good for them too, getting a guy of T’s calibre. This whole thing really kicks tail.”
Howard will be splitting the lawyer role with ‘Spiderman 2’ star Alfred Molina who has cleared his schedule upon finding out about his new co-star.
“There’s no doubt that Terrence Howard is a talented actor and a strong screen
presence but the reality is he has had trouble getting and holding onto gigs since the

beginning. The Iron Man fiasco, where he was replaced for the sequel, was really just the best known incident. There’s a reason he hasn’t hit the big time yet, people just aren’t interested,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “This is a big break for him and could go a long way towards proving his reliability should he stay on the show for more than a few episodes. He’s contracted to appear on half the episodes, so twelve. I figure if he can hit a third of that he will have shown a major improvement that could help his career in the long term.”
Howard reportedly called his agent three times on the way home from signing the contract with threats to quit, but thus far has remained on the show.
“Realistically the show will be enough of a success to keep it around for a couple of years regardless of who is on the show. They will change casts, the series has become notorious for that and this version won’t be any different, it’s just a matter of how long it takes before the switch comes,” continued Temple. “Of course the other issue will be how long people will want to continue to work with him. Luckily, aside from Molina, who he will not actually be working with, everyone else really needs the work so they will likely stick around until he leaves. Blissfully that likely won’t be long.”
Howard reportedly refused to sign his contract with the pen provided and ordered an intern to the local Staples to purchase a new pack.
