TIM DALY AND STEVEN WEBER TO SOAR AGAIN IN WINGS 2
June 28 2010
Hollywood, CA – With the current spate of remakes and adaptations making a killing at the box office it was perhaps inevitable that the television industry would jump on the bandwagon. With hundreds of defunct series, many of them still beloved by
modern audiences, the pool for potential remakes is huge, sixty years huge. With declining ratings and advertising revenue becoming the norm, many television executives are left looking for something familiar, something with which their audiences can immediately identify.
Of course, it isn’t only studios that are looking to mine their past for future success. Some former television stars are also looking to return to the roles that made them successful, hoping to not only strike gold a second time but to also engage audiences in ways that they have not been able to do since the end of their series. Chief amongst those championing the new remake trend is Tim Daly and Steven Weber who starred on the 90’s hit ‘Wings’. Now almost a decade and half since the end of that program and with few new opportunities presenting themselves, both actors have begun pushing a remake of the series that made their careers. Tentatively titled ‘Wings 2’, the new series will update and renovate the format that made the show such a hit. The actors sat down for an exclusive interview with Scrape TV News to discuss the new project.
Scrape TV – Welcome gentlemen.
Steven Weber – Hi, nice to be here.
Tim Daly – Thanks.
ST – So, Wings 2?
SW – Yeah, it was an idea the two of us developed together. We’ve stayed close since the end of the series, we go on vacations with our families, and eventually we just came around to this idea.
TD – It was really a natural thing. We often talk about the good old days and that just naturally led into this.
ST – So tell us about the plot.
SW – Well it is pretty much t the same as the original series in the subjects it deals with but the roles are kind of reversed. We actually pick it up after the end of the last series but now Joe and Brian are running the successful airline and they have these rivals that they need to compete with.
TD – Basically they take on the Roy role from the original series, trying to crush their competition but we get to see their side of the story as well. We get to see the hardships of power. There will be a lot more sex too.
ST – So it’s a story of corruption and comedy.
SW – Basically, yeah and about a half hour long.
TD – Yeah, we wanted to keep that part of it familiar, the same running time as the original series.
ST – Any other returning cast members?
TD – Nope.
ST – Well good luck with the series. Hope it works it.
TD – It will.
SW – Thank you very much.
No word on whether Paramount television, the studio behind the original series, is looking at the project.
