EVEN CHRIS ROCK NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRIS ROCK

January 10 2011

Los Angeles, CA – Everyone at one point or another looks back on their life and laments the loss of what they felt were their best years. While they may not have regrets over those years, the mere fact that they are gone never to return brings with empty highway
it a certain melancholy and fear that life will never be that good again. Life of course ebbs and flows and while there are certainly periods that have passed where things seem really good, that doesn’t necessarily mean that good times cannot come again.

For some people, people once believed to be born under a lucky star, those good times seem to come again and again but for others life is a struggle. For some people that one good period, that one time when everything seemed to click, is something they try their whole lives to recapture and often end up falling far short of reaching. While to outsiders their lives may still be great, to them the torture of never achieving that height they held so dear is something they are never able to overcome. Such appears to be the case for Chris Rock who led a winding path towards success but eventually hit the heights of his profession, only to see it evaporate in a blink leaving his fans and the man himself asking what exactly happened.chris rock

“Chris sees where things have gone. He’s a bright guy and he gets that where he is now is not where people, least of all himself, expected him to be. In the early days he would have dreamt of this life but when he really came into his own in the late nineties it felt like things were going in another direction, but they didn’t,” said a comedy insider. “This year was especially rough. He spent a lot of time looking back on what happened and it really looks bad and he realizes that this is not where he wanted to be.”

Rock was widely regarded as one of the top stand up comedians in the late 1990’s but since then has pursued roles in film.chris rock standup

“It was this one-two punch of ‘Death at a Funeral’ and ‘Grown Ups’ that really upset things. On the surface they should have been okay and he felt when reading the scripts that they would have worked but when the final product happened, well he realized that things didn’t really click. He made good money but still,” continued the insider. “He at first wanted to blame the other actors or even the director but he realized very quickly that the projects were doomed from the beginning and he just didn’t see it. He’s really aware now that his instincts have withered, that he just isn’t able to discern between what is good and what isn’t anymore. I mean he still recognizes the core elements of comedy in the projects but he can’t determine whether or not they are funny anymore and that is scaring him.”

It’s not immediately clear the last time Rock appeared in a funny or interesting project.grown ups adam sandler kevin james chris rock

“Comedy is a subjective thing to be sure but there are still standards. There is a hierarchy of quality that goes beyond taste. Even if you don’t like George Carlin for example, you have to acknowledge him as a comedy great. Personal appetites don’t really come into play in those distinctions and for awhile Rock was in that echelon,” said Scrape TV Humour analyst Doug Cutter.  “He seems to have lost it somewhere along the way, lost his focus and his taste for comedy and that is truly sad. He had so much potential in the field and though he has been able transition that success into little green rectangular pieces of paper, it doesn’t mean much for the future of the medium. Hopefully he at least finds some comfort in his past successes, he can always look back at what once was and be happy about those days.”

Former comedian and fellow ‘Saturday Night Live’ alumni Dennis Miller apparently has no similar regrets about leaving the field.
