MICHAEL BAY SOUGHT AFTER TRANSFORMER EXPLOSION SHUTS DOWN NUCLEAR PLANT
November 8 2010
Buchanan, NY – Everyone who has followed movies in the last fifteen years or so has certainly heard the name Michael Bay. For some Bay is the second coming, the greatest director who has ever lived who makes spectaculars unlike anything ever
imagined. For others he is the antichrist of filmmaking, damning the medium to mediocrity and dumbing down the audience for all movies. The latter is usually the dominant voice and with every movie the criticism of Bay becomes more and more robust.
Regardless of the opinions of critics and cinephiles, Bay’s movies make a whole lot of money for a lot of people. Because film is, at its essence, money driven Michael Bay has been able to have a lot of success because he is able to make so much money. Despite a half dozen hit films, it was only recently that Bay was truly able to hit his stride with the ‘Transformers’ films. With over a billion and half dollars already in the bank from theatrical tickets alone, Bay’s giant machines have been a boon for the man, for the studio, and arguably for film in a time when ticket sales are struggling. Of course, like anything successful the giant robots haven’t come without their pitfalls and now the latest, an explosion that shut down the Indian Point nuclear power plant, has become a huge headache for everyone involved.
“Apparently, there was an explosion, but no fire to speak of. No one was injured and the explosion occurred outside and nowhere near the reactor. This was a frightening incident to be sure but all of our safety protocols were in place and adhered with due diligence,” said a plant spokesperson. “At this point we aren’t entirely sure what caused the explosion but a thorough investigation will be conducted. Obviously explosions are things we prefer t avoid at nuclear plants no matter where they take place or the severity of the blast.”
The plant was temporarily closed for clean up and investigation.
“This is certainly a frightening incident simply because of where it took place but
nuclear facilities in the United States are fairly secure and safe and so even apparently
major incidents are not that big of a deal. However big explosions on a movie set, presumably unintended explosions, area big deal and that is something that Michael Bay and the producers are going to have to answer for at some point,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “The odd thing is that this film has finished shooting, finished months ago in fact and I have not heard of any pick-ups or reshoots being done. That makes this all the more unusual and potentially dangerous. I mean if these Transformers have actually come out of the film, or come to Earth because of the film, we could be in for a heap of trouble.”
In the previous two films it is believed the actual Transformers were achieved through CGI.
“Look, this film has already been plagued with trouble. That poor woman who was hit with the metal wire and the car crash with the police. This is the last thing they need but if they have somehow called these creatures into existence, perhaps by just creating them on film, then the world could be in for a heap of trouble,” continued Temple. “The Autobots would be fine, by I guarantee that this explosion was done be Decepticons. That would mean they are out there are already causing trouble which means nothing good for us at all. Hopefully this was just a reshoot.”
Neither Michael Bay or Paramount Pictures returned our calls.
