NEW RESEARCH SHOWS LIL WAYNE MUSIC LESS SOPHISTICATED THAN PREVIOUSLY BELIEVED

September 24 2010

New York, NY – In the past, artists of all disciplines were expected to be renaissance men, painters could write, writers could play music. For centuries the impression that artists were of a higher calibre of intelligence predominated the commonly accepted beethoven
thinking and for good reason. The intellectual prowess of people like Mozart, Beethoven, and Shakespeare were beyond reproach. In the modern world where commerce has taken over creativity much of that intellectualism has largely dried up. Teens are plucked from obscurity and made into overnight superstars and other artists spend their lives trying to maintain their stock portfolio rather than expand their personal horizons.

Even with the massive diversity and widespread access in artistic forms available today, the actual net gain for culture has been notably less than it once was. The slide has also been a measurable one. The intellectual depths of popular authors such as Hemingway, Steinbeck, and Tolstoy have been replaced by the popular sentiments of J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer. Nowhere has that been more apparent than in popular music which for centuries succeeded on complexity and diversity but in recent years has fallen into banality. And now it appears that at least one person who has attempted to dredge up some class from the muck has been less than honest in his efforts as a new study illustrates the limited research done by hip hop artist Lil Wayne.

“Cool. Now let's talk about the first entry in that article. The one where I mention that, lil wayne
on the song ‘Bring It Back,’ you said this... ‘I'm the Cash Money Makaveli, y'all ain't ready, break fast like Tom Petty, y'all just petty,’ wrote ‘Cracked’ author Adam Brown.” At the time, I was baffled (as indicated by the title of the article) because, really, is there anything fast about Tom Petty? I mean, ‘American Girl’ was kind of an up-tempo number, but I doubt it's clocking in at speed metal BPMs or anything. Other than that, Tom Petty really strikes me as the absolute antithesis of "fast." Seriously, he's a mellow dude.”lil wayne jail

It’s believed that Wayne was thinking of race car legend Richard Petty when writing the song and handful of examples indicate that the mistake was not simply an accident but rather the result of exceedingly poor research.

“For a brief period there was a great deal of depth and intellectualism in the hip hop genre but that largely evaporated alongside the rise in popularity. There have been a few that have held up the mantle but for the most part the genre has largely anaemic in recent years. Lil Wayne was the exception to that,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “This is really disheartening news to be honest. Frankly, I never looked too deeply into his lyrics. The authority and passions he used made you think that he knew what he was talking about but that doesn’t appear to be the case. This is a huge let down for so many reasons.”

Wayne (real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) is currently serving a prison term in New York and was unavailable for comment.lile wayne sad

“Granted, these are only a few errors but they cast his entire body of work into question. If basic details like this are wrong then one has to expect that the same lack of attention and research has gone into the rest of the work, meaning that all of it is tainted,” continued Chambers. “Quality begets quality and flaws beget flaws. It’s really sad to see that the one great hope we all had for the redemption of art has fallen like so many others. Hopefully he will read this and change his ways, for good of all of us.”

Wayne’s last album, ‘Rebirth’, had a surprisingly poor critical reception.
