RALPH FIENNES SECRETLY BUYING UP ALL COPIES OF MAID IN MANHATTAN

Hollywood, CA – Everyone has moments in their past they aren’t happy about, moments we wish we could go back and change or somehow wipe out of history forever. Life unfortunately doesn’t give us those chances and often those poor
choices and missteps are things we just have to deal with, things we just need to integrate into our experience and life and move on with. In real life, unlike the movies, truly achieving redemption rarely happens.
For the majority of people those indiscretions are minor bumps in the road, moments remembered by only a by a small number of intimates. For actors however those moments are played out in public, played out for millions to see. Whether it’s a small role in a bad movie or big role in a really bad movie, the memory of poor choices is out there on display, permanently a part of the record, keeping the memory very much alive for that poor soul. Usually those roles are allocated to the early years of an actor’s life, taking whatever they can get just to get a shot, but occasionally, as was the case with renowned actor Ralph Fiennes, that awkward moment can come even after years of success and critical acclaim, something that is much more difficult to blow off,
which likely explains the actor’s recent obsession with purchasing every single copy of ‘Maid in Manhattan’ brought to market.
“He’s obsessed, totally obsessed. He has spent millions so far and vows to continue to spend as much as it takes to make sure that that movie is wiped from existence. Frankly, I don’t think it’s possible but it has become his one calling in life,” said a Hollywood insider. “He sends a letter to the studio and the4 production companies every day urging them to turn over the negatives to him but that hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s got this team of people scouring the world buying every copy they see. Unfortunately those purchases will likely ensure that the movies will never be out of print.”
Released in 2002, ‘Maid in Manhattan starred Fiennes as a senatorial candidate who falls in love with a maid played charmingly by Jennifer Lopez.
“He knows he has made other bad movies. ‘The Avengers’ was bad, but the concept and the idea was sound. Ditto for ‘Strange Days’ and a handful of other movies. He knows the execution was weak, but the intent was there and that goes a long way. With ‘Maid in Manhattan, it was just bad from concept onwards. He doesn’t even know why he did it, he didn’t make much money from it,” continued the insider. “This isn’t a new thing though. About half way through shooting the movie he knew it what it was, he knew that he had made a bad choice but he stuck with it like a professional. Now he has quietly tried to correct that mistake but it likely won’t work unfortunately. It really is a stain on an otherwise stellar career.”
Fiennes’ big break came in 1994’s ‘Schindler’s List’ which happened after only three years of film acting. Most recently, he has become known for his role in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, projects he specifically chose to finance his own redemption.
“Look, the movie was bad and coming when it did so far into his career there really is no excuse for it. People in Hollywood take jobs for money all the time and I think the town will forgive him, he just needs to forgive himself. It’s really not that horrendous, not like Liam Neeson and what he did in Somalia in the 90’s after all,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “He has more than redeemed himself since that movie and I think one could even look at it as a turning point, something that drove him to greater success. Or perhaps he just has to live with it, move on and live with his mistakes. After all, we all have things we wish we could change and we all usually end up just living with them.”
Fiennes reportedly has been caught a number of times breaking into the homes of people who have the movie in their collection, but charges have always been dropped.
