STAR WARS TO UNDERGO 3D SCRIPT CONVERSION

October 5 2010

San Francisco, CA – For an entire generation of movie-goers one film franchise has defined fandom forever. When it first appeared on screens on May 25, 1977, it was immediately clear that ‘Star Wars’ was going to change things forever. Sold out star wars poster
shows and lines wrapping around blocks surely meant big box office but also meant that this little tale of knights and princesses was going to have a huge impact on popular culture. More than thirty years later that impact has become almost immeasurable.

George Lucas’ tale has arguably been the most widespread and influential story in human history, spreading across cultures, languages, and religions to virtually all people throughout the world. The success of the films put science fiction story telling on the map and helped to finance companies such as Industrial Light & Magic and Pixar which have themselves dramatically changed culture, and all of this from what is essentially a simple tale. While many will debate the artistic merits of the films there is little arguing that they have changed movie-going forever and now, with the advent of 3-D, will seek to do the same thing once again. With the announcement last week that the movies will be undergoing a 3-D conversion both critics and fans have gotten excited once again, something that will likely continue with word that the scripts will also be undergoing a conversion.george lucas neck

“No one wants to talk about it right now but they all realize the problems with the scripts and they want to alter things just a little bit, similar to what they did with the special editions. Basically everyone feels that the older movies just don’t jive with younger audiences and they want to make them a little more hip,” said a Lucasfilm insider. “ They want to leave the newer movies the way they are because they speak to the audience they are shooting for but the older movies, well they just don’t hold up the way they should and they want to spice them up.”

It’s not clear what changes will be made or how they will be integrated into the storylines.

“They are certainly going to retcon some stuff but most of the changes will be about bringing it towards modern audiences. Remember that the older movies were written empire strikes back at at
in the seventies and eighties and are as old as many of the parents whose kids they are aiming the movies at. They were made in a era without cellphones and internet and that just doesn’t speak to young kids today,” continued the insider. “George is going to be doing all the writing himself. He feels like he can speak to younger audiences just as well as he did back when the movies were new and that there’s no reason to bring anyone else in. He’s really desperate to avoid the multiple writer phenomenon that hurts so many movies and even damaged, slightly, the scripts for Empire and Jedi.”

It’s believed that the principle actors have all been contacted to reprise their roles, all except Alec Guinness who is dead.lando calrissian

“It’s really up in the air as to whether or not these re-releases will be hits. Star Wars isn’t the only movie undergoing this transition and it’s a really sketchy thing to assume that people will want to pay top dollar for something they have basically already seen. Whether it’s this or Titanic or some other movie it’s a tough sell,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “Of course offering them something new will always help. Just releasing the same tired old movies again will go so far, but by adding content or changing some things up you offer a new experience which could make or break these re-releases. Changing the scripts is certainly an unusual move but it could be one that pays off with lots and lots of money.”

The first film will be released in 2012 and the others in the following years, should the apocalypse not actually happen.
