VERNE TROYER TO PLAY SMALL ROLE IN NEW MOVIE
October 3 2010
Hollywood, CA – Being a person possessed of any kind of disability has to be a major challenge in society. Many people have been very successful even with severe disabilities, people such as Beethoven and Stevie Wonder are two prime examples of
that, but they are often the exception. The hard reality is that disability impedes a life even if it doesn’t halt it all together. Part of that hindrance is certainly the physical limitations but the other part, perhaps the most profound part, is social acceptance.
Nowhere is that more evident than in the case of people with dwarfism. On odd condition to be sure, dwarfism has long been the subject of fascination, revulsion, and mockery throughout all cultures. The sad truth of the condition however is that, despite some physical concerns and injuries, people affected by dwarfism are regular people, just smaller. Their lives are only impacted by their height rather than some perverted or diminished sense. They have all the same passions and dreams as people of average height, though they are rarely

able to achieve them simply because they are smaller. That is best on display in Hollywood whose history has long been peppered by dwarves portraying, well, dwarfs. In that realm no one has been more successful than Verne Troyer, Mini-Me, who once again has lined up a role as a little person in a new movie.
“It’s an exciting role. I’m really excited play the part. I can’t give too many details about the character or the movie but it is one of the more exciting parts I’ve played even though it will be a small one,” said Troyer in an exclusive interview. “I will be playing a dwarf who acts as a kind of sidekick to the main villain. I’m only in a handful of scenes but they are going to be really good scenes. It’s probably the best part I’ve had the opportunity to play and I’m glad I was able to land the role.”
Troyer was up against a few other short actors, but being the only one anyone knows, he landed the part.
“I’ve already had a couple of meetings with the director and the writer to try and flesh out my character, to try and get into his skin. I’m so excited about this part because it seems like the role I was always meant to play. This is the reason I came to Hollywood in the first place,” continued Troyer. “I really think this movie is going to be big and I’m glad to be playing a part in it no matter how small that part is. This is really the best thing that I’ve ever been involved with and it’s got a great group of people involved so I think this will be a great experience. I can’t wait to get started.”
The mystery film will begin production ‘early 2011’. It is apparently not the rumoured remake of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, a movie Troyer will certainly be in if it is made.
“The role of little people has not been an easy one in any aspect of life, but we see that very clearly in Hollywood. Little people don’t dream of playing dwarves and leprechauns, they dream of playing leading men and women with their name in lights but that just doesn’t happen and, frankly, never, will. That is the experience of little people in a nutshell,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “It certainly makes sense. I mean I can’t imagine what it would be like to see a mini Tom Cruise or a mini Will Smith running around blowing stuff up. It would just be silly to be honest, though a little funny. Regardless, it’s sad for all these little people. What makes it worse is that now one guy gets all the roles which really just piles on the headaches.”
Fellow little actor Tony Cox will also reportedly appear in the movie in an even smaller role.
