WARNER BROTHERS CONSIDERING AMERICAN REBOOT OF HARRY POTTER FRANCHISE

Hollywood, CA – There have been few cultural phenomenon’s like the Harry Potter franchise in the history of the world. The sheer dollar numbers, billions and billions from movie to books to lunchboxes, are certainly impressive but merely represent 
how widely the story of the young wizard has appealed. No property in history has ever appealed to such a massive audience so consistently. Vampires have not done that, not Mickey Mouse, not even Superman. Harry Potter is beyond anything popular culture has ever seen.
Of course, all good things must end, just as the Harry Potter franchise is about to do. With the book series already complete and the first part of the final chapter of the movie series due in just days, both fans and bean counters are understandably getting a little sad and nostalgic. While no one would argue that the series has certainly paid itself out and told a complete story, just about everyone with a connection to the world of wizarding wants more, something Warner Brothers is apparently eager to appease. Latching onto the recent reboot trend, officials at the studio have reportedly been deep in negotiations with Potter creator J.K. Rowling to reenergize the franchise with an American cast and setting, taking the world of young wizards to all new heights.
“It’s really early in the talks and Rowling has been a little sceptical to be sure but they are talking and that’s a big deal. Obviously if they are going to do it they are going to want to get it right and all sides agree that if they don’t nail it they could really kill the golden goose and so they are stepping lightly, but stepping,” said a Warner insider. “Right now they are at the very early stages of development but that hasn’t stopped them from starting to toss around names that could potentially take over some of the roles. Some of the people I’ve heard are Robert De Niro for Dumbledore and Sam Worthington as Snape but all of that is just talk right now.”
The last instalment of the movie franchise will be released next summer.
“They want to get things going relatively quickly. They are aiming for a winter 2014 release for the first movie in the series. Some people have actively begun advocating a name change, changing the character to something more American, but they obviously don’t want to lose that great brand recognition,” continued the insider. “They are of course going to address the concerns that they are just doing this for the money by stating that that is exactly what they are doing, but that they will also be dedicated to the fans and the to the core of the story. They don’t feel that there is any reason why both the commercial and creative sides can’t be appeased and they don’t want those concerns to become a major issue.”
The reboot will also apparently feature the wizards at a slightly older age to offer more sex appeal. 
“Reboots are always going to be a controversial thing but as long as they are done right people usually don’t complain. Harry Potter is a beloved franchise and people really identify with the characters and so they are going to up in arms at the idea of a reboot but it’s not altogether a terrible idea,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “I mean if you do away with the robes and brooms and magic sticks you might be able to bring the series into the modern age and appeal to an entirely new audience that simply ignored the stories because of those quaint attributes. There really is an opportunity here if they get it right.”
Channing Tatum has reportedly already begun soliciting for a role in the film, presumed to be either Malfoy or Hagrid.
