BLACK EYED PEAS TO RECORD NEW VERSION OF REBECCA BLACK HIT ‘FRIDAY’

April 27 2011

Los Angeles, CA – Every now and then a pop phenomenon comes around that leaves everyone a little confused. Some successful pop events are borne out of real talent and clever marketing, but others simply defy any kind of rational logic, the black eyed peas
becoming huge success despite a lack of any of those qualities that make others popular. Still, popular they become often to the eternal dismay, confusion, and occasional amusement of just about everyone watching.

The latest of those successes has of course been Rebecca Black and her hit song ‘Friday’. That tune, simplistic by even the most rudimentary of standards, has amassed incredible attention for the 13-year old making her into an overnight pop wonder much to the chagrin of many music fans. The vapid tune detailing the events of a typical Friday for the teen exploded on the scene less than two months ago, drawing worldwide attention for the singer and, despite all expectations, embedding itself in popular culture. With the song being covered in virtually every media outlet in the country and even appearing on the hit show ‘Glee’ the song has become more than the sum of its parts, and become the genuine hit it never should have been. Now it appears the song is poised to become an even bigger success after being validated by one of the biggest bands in the world, The Black Eyed Peas, who are no planning to re-record the song for their new album, which will also cover the remaining days of the week.black eyed peas

“We heard the song like everyone else and we were like ‘damn, that’s what we’re doing’ and we thought you know maybe the ship had sailed, like they had gotten to it before us and we would have to start all over again, but that’s not how BEP does,” said lead singer will.i.am. “We decided to take what she did and roll with it. I read the Michelangelo would take the natural cracks in the marble and flow with them, make his stuff. That’s how we do, we go with flow and take things as they come.”

The band has already recorded four days of the week, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

“We started to get really excited about the project when we saw how that song blew up. I mean we heard it when it only had a few views on YouTube but then it became this massive thing and we were like ‘we had that from the start’,” continued the singer. “Now I got to say that our version just kicks. We’ve already laid down the vocals and are working on the mix. I think that our version of the song is just going to blow that other one out of the water, though we are still all really glad she could have that success but we got to do like we do, you know?”calendar

The band is still promoting its latest album but will release the days of the week later this year.

“We see this type of thing happen every now and then, where a novelty tune becomes a genuine hit. Everyone hates it but they keep listening and then it is turned over and over again until it becomes full-fledged cultural event, which seems to be happening here,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “That appears to be exactly what it happening here as the whole thing gets embedded in other areas on culture, ensuring that the song will be preserved for all time. I mean once BEP gets involved it becomes something else entirely, and they have the ability to make something persist for a very long time. I mean that’s been their whole career, they’re pros.”

Black will not appear on the newest version of the song, citing a desire to move onto Saturday.
