CHARLIE SHEEN TALKING TO HIMSELF ABOUT RETURNING TO ‘TWO AND HALF MEN’
April 14 2011
Los Angeles, CA – A few months ago ‘Two and Half Men’ was just another sitcom. It was a hit to be sure, immensely popular, but little more than a simple and simplistic half hour of laughs. While unto itself no serious television viewer would ever have
classed the show alongside the greats of the medium, it was beloved by many for the very reasons for which many people were critical. It’s dumb, it’s simplistic, and totally void of any kind of creativity.
The show was however a huge hit, engaging millions of viewers and making a great deal of money for everyone involved, that was at least until February of this year when everything imploded. The self-destruction of Charlie Sheen, and the impact that has had on the production and future of the show, has easily been the best documented showbiz story of the year, making for arguably more entertainment than the show was ever able to accomplish. That public meltdown has however likely damned the show that created it, putting it very much on the chopping block and forcing a lot of people to deal with drained bank accounts. However, because of the money involved it appears that more than a few backroom deals are being made
to resurrect or even reboot the show, including an ongoing discussion between Charlie Sheen and himself about his possible return to the hit program.
“There's been discussions, but I was asked not to divulge anything. I will say though that the discussion are going well and I think we will be able to come to an understanding fairly soon. It’s a good deal for everyone and so the best thing is to keep talking,” Sheen said on a Boston radio show. “There are some money issues we need to work on but we all think that we can get past those. It’s an ongoing thing but I think we will be able to figure it out.”
Sheen was fired from the show in March after making derogatory comments about producers and co-workers. All involved have stated that Sheen would not be welcomed back and that no negotiations had been undertaken.
“Charlie has a few regrets about the whole thing. He won’t admit it publicly, he feels
like he played a bluff and now he’s been called on it and just needs to save face. He does realize though that he lost a lot in losing the show and he does want it back, not just for the money but also for the self-satisfaction,” said a Sheen insider. “I will say though that no one else feels the same way. I know he’s been in negotiations but they’ve mostly been with himself, in the shower and at night. He goes over things with his girlfriends and has them act as though they work for CBS but that’s a far ways away from engaging in actual talks. I mean I guess he’s preparing his argument, but nothing official has taken place yet.”
CBS will announce its fall schedule in May and so any decisions on the future of the show will have to be made before then.
“It seems very unlikely that Sheen will be on the show anymore if they even decide to
go forward with it. He’s replaceable, all people are replaceable, and after everything that has happened it’s likely that they will find someone new if they are going to go ahead,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “You never say never in Hollywood, but sometimes it’s better to just go separate ways. Obviously at two million an episode Sheen is a little less willing to just walk away, but in my experience internal negotiations tend to not go as well as one you have with real life people, people that can actually affect a resolution or even just ones that can respond to you. Getting the okay from yourself is fine, but Charlie isn’t going to be signing his own paycheques or broadcasting the show on his own network, well he might but no one is going to see it.”
Sheen has also begun negotiations to resolve the crisis in Libya and nominated himself for the Nobel Peace Prize.
