CHRIS BROWN MISTAKES WINDOW FOR RIHANNA’S FACE

New York, NY – There are few acts of violence more repellent to society as a whole than violence against women. No matter how much society has changed, no matter how close to equals men and women have become in recent years, a man committing
violent acts against a woman are still considered the just about the peak of unacceptable behaviours. While some of that is certainly rooted in cultural expectations, the protection of women goes back much further than that, deep into the psyche and genetic makeup of all men from the earliest days of our species.
Despite that commonly accepted way of behaving, violence against women does still occur fairly regularly across the United States and around the world. While most certainly not an unknown phenomenon, occasionally it takes a high profile case to highlight the issue, to put it firmly back into people’s minds. Such an incident was the case of Chris Brown and Rihanna whose high profile incident in 2009 brought fresh attention to domestic abuse, and in the process effectively ended the burgeoning career of Brown and made him the poster boy for battered women. Now more than two years later Brown is in the midst of a public image and career renewal and trying to put his tormented past behind him, something that apparently failed after an incident at ‘Good Morning America’ where he apparently mistook a dressing room window for Rihanna’s face and smashed it to smithereens.
“We don’t know for sure that he broke the window but we’re pretty sure. He was in the dressing room alone and we heard screaming before the glass shattered and so we’re fairly confident that not that it was him, but that he did it intentionally,” said a ‘GMA’ insider. “I don’t know exactly what motivated him to do it, we did ask questions about Rihanna but they were pre-approved, all I know is that he was screaming profanities and Rihanna’s name and then the window was broken so draw from that what you will.”
Brown had been on the show to promote his newest album which was released late last year.
“I’m not going to talk about the specifics of what happened at the show, but I will say
that Chris does have a temper and despite everything that has happened he still has a lot of trouble controlling himself. He has definitely come a long way in the last two years but it’s probably going to be something he has to deal with for the rest of his life,” said a Brown insider. “It’s also very difficult because he is constantly confronted with the object of his anger, the person who cause him to unravel. Not only is he constantly asked questions about it but he sees her face everywhere, videos, billboards, coffee mugs, mirrors, burnt toast, and even in windows. She’s haunting him, going out of her way to remind him of her and he is none too happy about that. She just won’t let it go.”
Rihanna’s career was, many outsiders observed, largely boosted by the incident. Since that time she has become one of the biggest recording stars in the world.
“Obviously she has to continue her career and no one, not even Chris, thinks she is doing that just to mess with him but he can avoid a lot of that stuff fairly easily. It’s the other things, things like smelling her when he walks into a room and seeing her face in everything, like people do with Jesus. He thinks that’s very unfair of her to be doing,” continued the insider. “He wants to put all of this behind him but it’s very, very difficult when she is showing up everywhere. It’s not so much her face, it’s the reminder that her face brings. Frankly she really needs to stop it or it probably won’t be just a window the next time.”
Rihanna was in Europe when the incident occurred, though she does have representation in New York.
