‘HANGOVER II’ MONKEY KICKS CIGARETTE HABIT AS EXAMPLE FOR YOUNG FANS

April 21 2011

Los Angeles, CA – Of the many mysteries of the human brain that researchers have been unable to resolve, one of the most perplexing is the nature of addiction. Working in complete contrast to what we assume is an elemental part of the human smoking addiction
condition, survival, addiction persists. After all, the things we often become most heavily addicted to are things we know for certain are unhealthy and potentially limit our lives, yet we continue. Somehow, despite all logic, those two elements, survival and addiction, coexist in the same complex mess of tissue and electrical impulses in our heads.

For many people though addiction is a positive thing, not so much for the addiction itself, but for the challenge it provides in overcoming such compulsions. For human beings the sense of accomplishment, of achievement, is one of the most compelling and affecting of our experiences. That in turn can make addiction a positive thing for many people, in a very roundabout way. That said however, many people still suffer tremendously with addiction to all types of things, addictions that disrupt their lives and threaten their health. Luckily in the modern world we have developed ways to treat addiction allowing people to be free of those damaging consequences. Luckily we also have prominent success stories, providing examples by which people can be inspired, as is the case with Crystal, the capuchin monkey and star of the upcoming ‘The Hangover II’ who recently kicked her cigarette habit, providing inspiration for millions around the world.hangover 2 poster

“Crystal has indeed kicked the habit. Contrary to what (director) Todd Phillips said, Crystal did not become addicted to cigarettes on the set of the movie. She was already very much an addict but now she is clear and free,” said a spokesperson for the monkey. “She was cast in part because she was already a smoker, but realizing that this is going to be a big movie seen by millions she didn’t want to be a real life bad example for everyone out there.”

Crystal most recently filmed a role in Cameron Crowe’s ‘We bought a Zoo’ where she was inspired to drop the cancer sticks.

“Crystal has been in some big movies before, but it is only of late that she realized her prominence and what affect that could have on young viewers. She realized that she need to be responsible and not just act selfishly. She quit for herself, but she was inspired to do so because of the fans,” continued the spokesperson. “It was quite easy for her but she doesn’t want that to undermine the accomplishment. After all, she can’t buy cigarettes by herself. Not only will no one sell to her, she  doesn’t handle her own money. We simply removed the enablers from her circle and that has done wonders for her mental and physical health. She fully expects this will stick.”smoking chimp

Crystal also had majors role in ‘Night at the Museum’ films.

“Anytime you see a famous person suffering from addiction it’s of course very amusing, but sad at the same time. It’s a reminder of how devastating these things can be, and it’s inspiring when we see them kick the habit and get things back on the right track,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “For someone like Crystal, who frankly has a limited life span, one that has likely been shortened by years of smoking, it’s especially redeeming and really a great story. Hopefully she does provide an example for all her fans, especially once she becomes a big star come May.”

Crystal was not available for comment, though she has a reputation for being tight lipped during interviews anyway.
