TARA REID PLANNING TO WRITE AND DIRECT BIG LEBOWSKI SEQUEL

February 3 2011

Los Angeles, CA – Occasionally creative works come along that help to define a generation, works that become cultural touchstones either because of their quality or because of their impact, or very occasionally both of those things. Such era defining pulp fiction
events are impossible to predict and even in the moment, the full impact of those works can never be fully ascertained. Take for example a movie like ‘Pulp Fiction’ which was heralded as the one of the great films of all time, a watershed moment in the medium, but now all these years later is just a really good movie.

Predicting the ebb and flow of pop culture is something virtually impossible to do. One generation’s defining moment is another’s confusion. There is another way in which such events defy convention as well with certain works gaining in momentum as the years pass, aging like fine wine, and grabbing a hold of new generations for reasons that most people would find inexplicable, such are the vagaries of the amorphous mass that is popular culture. ‘The Big Lebowski’ is neither of those things, neither a defining cultural event or a movie that has aged like fine wine. The modest hit released in the later winter of 1998 has never really gripped a large segment of the population, becoming instead a cult hit, beloved by a small group of dedicated fans. Perhaps confusing many, that dedication has now apparently paid dividends with the announcement that a sequel is now on the way involving most of the principal players, and will mark the writing and directing debut of former actress Tara Reid.tara reid

“Um, I have a movie coming out called ‘The Fields’ and I have another one that’s coming out that I produced with my brother in uh March called ‘The Irishman’, it’s based on a true story,” Reid told Hollywood.tv. “And we’ll be doing ‘American Pie 4’ this year and ‘The Big Lebowski 2’this year.”

The Coen brothers have not announced a follow up to their hit ‘True Grit’ but have denied any involvement with a sequel to Lebowski.

“Personally I don’t get Lebowski. I’ve tried it a number of times but I just don’t get it. That said, there is no accounting for taste and the reality is that a lot of people really love the movie, quote it all the time, and that the big lebowski john goodman
makes one think that a sequel would be a natural thing, but of course replicating whatever it is that appeals to people is the real challenge, that’s hard enough to get once,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “The Coens are certainly master filmmakers and they have made a lot of really great movies so it probably wouldn’t be beyond them to make a good sequel to the movie, but it is a risk particularly for the fans that have the original as this beloved piece in their hearts.”

The original film was released with little fanfare but has since spawned numerous parodies, fan conventions, and even stores dedicated to selling merchandise.the big lebowski jeff bridges

“The real story here is Tara Reid making a real comeback. I think a lot of people in the early days thought she would have a chance at a major career if she made some good choices and kept her head on straight but that is exactly what didn’t happen. She kind of fell apart in a lot of ways and much of that potential was lost, I guess no one can really predict what will happen in the future with these kinds of things,” continued Temple. “I doubt many people would have predicted her getting into actually making movies, but life does odd things at times. It makes sense for her to want to revisit what is arguably her biggest triumph, her biggest movie. Hopefully if it does well and this is a new career path for her. I also really hope she resolves the Donny storyline, I didn’t like seein’ Donny go.”

No release date has been set for the new movie. Christian Slater is reportedly in talks for a role in the film.
