TWELVE YEAR OLD BOY DIGITALLY REPLACED BY NATALIE PORTMAN IN THOR
March 31 2011
Hollywood, CA – Hollywood has been, and always will be, a place of magic. From the beginning, Hollywood films portrayed a fantasy world on screen, a world that either didn’t exist at all, or a world of which the audience could only dream. That has
persisted through the long legacy of the medium, catapulting it to become the most successful creative medium ever assembled, presenting fantasy realms and situations that can only be played out in the movies. Hollywood is the dream machine, the place where fantasies come to life.
Of course, Hollywood itself is also a fantasy. After all, those worlds and situations which they create are not real, they are merely smoke and mirrors, camera tricks and clever editing. Hollywood dreams may seem real when seen in a darkened theatre, but they are in the end completely manufactured. Whether it is fantasy realms, space operas, or redemptive stories of young love, Hollywood manufactures those dreams and installs them in our consciousness. Most people realize that all too well, that many of those creations are fictional, but occasionally the strings show and we start to see the trickery behind the scenes, the formula behind the secret sauce. Such has been the case of late with
Natalie Portman’s performance in ‘Black Swan’, a performance which won her the Academy Award, which appears to have been performed in part by a professional dancer. With that controversy, brewing another seems to be forming around the actress with word that she did not actually appear in set on her upcoming blockbuster ‘Thor’ and instead was simply digitally inserted throughout the film.
“I can’t comment on the ‘Black Swan’ thing because I frankly don’t know. I’m sure the dancer did more than anyone in the production is willing to acknowledge but I don’t really know. I can tell you though that she flat out refused to appear on set for our movie,” said a Marvel insider. “She really didn’t want to do the movie, not because she didn’t like the script or anything, but because she just preferred to stay at home. Another actor came in to perform the part and she was just inserted later on. Not parts of the movie, the whole thing.”
For ‘Swan’ a professional ballerina claims that Portman’s face was placed on her body. In another movie a ‘butt double’ was used to replace Portman in a racy scene.
“People don’t realize this when they watch movies but there are lots of times when the actor they are thinking they are seeing isn’t actually the actors. There are body doubles, stand ins, and part doubles all the time but I think this is the first time an actor has been completely replaced,” continued the insider. “She just didn’t want to go out to the desert apparently but she wanted to be in the movie and so we ended up with this dilemma and this was the best solution we could come up with and we feel it worked pretty well.”
Portman was apparently replaced on set with a twelve year old boy.
“I don’t want this to create more controversy for her, I mean if I could get paid for not showing up to work I would do it too, but I’m afraid that people are going to start to lash out if they realize it’s not her on screen,” concluded the insider. “I mean I know it’s a movie about a Nordic God being cast out of Valhalla to fight the forces of evil on Earth but we don’t want people to think it’s fake and we don’t want to get the kind of negative backlash ‘Black Swan’ has been receiving. That doesn’t do good for anyone frankly and it’s the last thing we need.”
The boy who replaced Portman has apparently gone missing, unlike the ‘Swan’ dancer.
