Los Angeles, CA – With the success if the latest instalment of the ‘Die Hard’, series Bruce Willis and Fox have decided that the two decade old franchise still has some juice left. Willis has reportedly signed on to once again reprise his role as John McClane in what will be the fifth instalment in the series, but will be for some reason titled as number six.
“I’m a huge fan of John McClane and. I love playing the character and hope to be able to play him for a long time to come,” said Willis. “Of course we may have to come with a wheelchair equipped with guns eventually, but I’m keeping it together for now. We are all really excited about the story we have and we think the fans will be thrilled.”
Willis did not go into any plot details for the upcoming film, nor did he answers questions as to why the series was going back to numbered titling and why the fifth film will be labelled with a six.
“The history of the fifth film in the series has never been great. Star Trek, Rocky, they really trudged through the fifth film but seemed to bring it back in the sixth instalment. They may just want to avoid the fifthmore jinx,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Also, Sylvester Stallone is trumpeting a fifth Rambo film and it may be that Willis is eager to outdo him. They’ve supposedly been friendly rivals ever since the Planet Hollywood days. This may just be an extension of that. Or it could be that they can’t count very well.”
Film series have often struggled with the naming of the series. Many, including the Die Hard series, have chosen to completely forego the numbering system in favour of clever titling, so the inclusion of a number at all, never mind the incorrect numbering in this instalment, becomes even more confusing.
“Titles often change multiple times before the movie actually releases and this one will probably go through a change or two, but from what I’ve heard they fully intend to keep the number six in the title,” continued Temple. “Hollywood does some odd things and this is yet another. I wouldn’t read too much into it though. If it’s a rivalry, or a joke, it doesn’t really matter. They may just realize that it’s a lot easier coming up with titles if you just stick a number at the end. Maybe they’ll make part five later on.”
We attempted to contact Bill Cosby who starred in the box office flop Leonard Part 6, which was the first and last in the series. Our calls were not returned by press time.
