CHRISTIAN BALE JEALOUS OVER HEATH LEDGER’S “DEATH”

Hollywood, CA – With the runaway success of the newest Batman film one would think that the movie was doomed to some kind of karmic repercussions, and with the assault charges laid against star Christian Bale, it was thought that maybe it’s time had come. Not so, at least according to Warner Brothers.

With the death of a stuntman during production, the apparent death of “Joker” Heath Ledger (reference), and this latest event, the movie on the surface seems to be cursed. Of course, with record setting box office receipts, the exact opposite seems to be the case. The darkness surrounding the film seems to have only added allure to the on screen product, itself of course an extremely dark vision.

“The company is of course thrilled with the box office take,” said a Warner’s executive who asked to remain anonymous. “There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the massive interest in the film is directly related to Heath Ledger. Now this with Bale, I mean it really doesn’t get much better than this. The movie is getting mention left right and centre in every single news and web publication, and because the movie is so dark, it fits right in. This is the best press anyone could ask for.”

Some have speculated that the Bale arrest in just one more in a series of viral campaigns constructed for the movie. Others have put forth the idea that Bale is intensely jealous of the attention his co-star has received and is attempting to out-do his commitment to his craft. “Everyone knows Bale throws himself into his roles. He lost 60 pounds for ‘The Machinist’, the guy is dedicated. It may very well be that he felt as though he hadn’t put enough of himself into the Batman role, especially in comparison to how dedicated Ledger was. I mean, the guy died and all, that’s commitment. My guess is that is most likely the case, it’s common for actors to try and one up each other on the set. My guess is that with the release of the film, he was reminded at just how much of himself that Ledger put into the role and realized that he needed to step it up. I doubt it was part of the marketing campaign, but you never know.”

Regardless of the reasons the dark nature of his arrest and the dark nature of the film seem to fit neatly together, resulting in likely nothing more than continued box office success and a strong lead in to the inevitable third film. When reached for comment about the situation, Bale’s representatives and Warner Brothers declined comment.      

“Both Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman have expressed interest in returning for a third film,” continued the exec. “I think they’re going to have to do something pretty bad if they want to come back.”
