GUNS ‘N’ ROSES TO RELEASE CHINESE DEMOCRACY TO LARGELY UNINTERESTED AUDIENCE

October 12 2008

Santa Monica, CA – Geffen records has announced an official release date for the long in development new album from legendary rock group Guns ‘n’ Roses. ‘Chinese Democracy’, which has been in production since 1994 and cost an estimated 14 million dollars to produce, will be released November 23 to an adoring audience of thirty-something’s pining for better days.axl rose

The album has been a legend of musical vapourware since its announcement in the late 1990’s with sporadic appearances throughout the last decade. Earlier this year soft drink maker Dr. Pepper promised a free can to every person in America should the album release this year, something the manufacturer may be regretting now.

“Ha, well there’s still a month to go so we will see,” said a spokesperson for the Pepsi owned bottler. “We’ll talk about delivering if there’s actually music on the disc.”

The release will mark the band’s first album release since 1993 in which time the group has gone through numerous line up changes leaving only frontman Axl Rose intact. Much of the criticism over the length of development has been targeted at Rose’s perceived megalomaniacal behaviour and obsessive perfectionism. The long gap in between albums has also rendered the bulk of the band’s older fans long in tooth and the principle target market younger than the band.

“Many of the members of the target audience either weren’t alive or were extremely young when the band last released an album. It will be interesting to see if anyone under the age of Twenty-Five makes any kind of effort to buy the CD,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “Of course if the music rocks then all of this criticism will go away, but I don’t see how this could be anything but vapourware. There is no way the album can live up to expectations unless it maybe does something to bring about actual Chinese Democracy.”

The release though comes not only as a relief but also as vindication for Rose and Geffen after having endured years of jokes and ridicule at the hands of the press and fans. mao zedong

“There has to be a level of satisfaction for all parties involved,” continued Temple. “It’s kind of like finding the Loch Ness Monster or Atlantis. You just keep going and if you come up with something you look like a hero. If you don’t at least people can admire your determination. You have to wonder what kind of musical innovation you can get from an out-of-practice 46 year old rock star. We’ll see in November, finger crossed.”

Geffen also announced that it is negotiations with remaining Beach Boy Brian Wilson to release their long unrealized album ‘Smile’. It has also been reported that David Geffen himself has begun plunging his personal fortune into finding the Ark of the Covenant.

We contacted the Chinese government and asked if this release would change their minds about political change. A spokesperson gave a terse no comment but added "I'm looking forward to the album. I'll have to ask if I'm allowed to listen to it."
