Hollywood, CA - The tragic death of John Travolta’s 16-year old son Jett has brought a fresh round of criticism against the Church of Scientology whose belief system many are blaming for the teenager’s demise. An autopsy concluded that the younger Travolta died of a seizure, which the elder Travolta and wife Kelly Preston have claimed is a result of the lymph node disease Kawasaki Syndrome. Others, including Travolta’s brother Joey, have claimed that Jett suffered from Autism, a disease for which Scientology will not allow treatment. Faced with this criticism, the Church has decided to disallow medical treatment of any kind for its follower’s.
“One of the basic tenets of Scientology is that mental disease does not exist. Followers are not allowed to seek treatment for mental or emotional issues, though they are able to seek treatment for physical ailments, or at least they were,” said Scrape TV Religion analyst Bertram Gas. “The obvious issue is that if Jett Travolta died from an Autism related seizure then it is the practices of the religion that essentially killed him. There is no evidence that that is the case, but any opportunity to jump on Scientology and their practices is generally taken with great gusto.”
Whether or not the younger Travolta suffered from Autism, whether or not the practices of Scientology led to his death, the controversial religion has launched its formidable spin machine at full speed with celebrity followers Tom Cruise and Lisa Marie Presley coming out to fight. Now the notoriously closed door religion has decided to close the door to the rest of the world just a little further.
“Supposedly the higher powers in the Church have decided that the issue with Jett Travolta’s death isn’t the lack of diagnosis of his mental illness, but the disclosure of his cause of death and have now advised their followers to not seek medical attention of any kind,” continued Gas. “The idea is that at least in this case it wasn’t his death or the cause of it that was the problem, it was the revelation of how he died that is the issue. The solution is to prevent any further medical diagnosis and therefore not bring any further criticism against the Church.”
The Church believes that the majority is illnesses are psychosomatic. It is believed that the new policy will involve attributing all disease and injury to psychosomatic causes and disavowing such accepted medical standards such as parasites, bacteria, viruses, and accidents.
“It’s going to be able to sell say a broken foot as being a product of the mind but is there is one thing the Church of Scientology is good at its selling,” continued Gas. “It’s unclear if L. Ron Hubbard had ever suffered from injury and how we would have been treated had it happened but one thing is for sure they wouldn’t have talked about it.”
L. Ron Hubbard was a Science Fiction author and the founder of Scientology. The religion is widely criticized for its secretive nature which many liken to a cult.
“All religion is essentially a cult. It’s an organized belief with doctrines that need to be followed by its believers without question. Small religions are most frequently criticized but all of them started off small,” concluded Gas. “Of course most don’t talk about space aliens or have celebrity supporters go wacko on talk shows. The growing pains of a religion perhaps, not that they’d admit that of course. At least there are no medicines for growing pains so they don’t need to worry about that one.”
