New York, NY – With her spot on impersonation of Governor Sarah Palin Tina Fey has been drawing rave reviews and spectacular ratings for the once faltering ‘Saturday Night Live’. The ’30 Rock’ star has been lauded from virtually every corner including from Palin herself and now the comedian is stating that she is ready to take on the Presidency should it become necessary.
“I’m ready and willing to step into the position as President if it is needed,” said Fey in a statement. “In the unholy event that John McCain wins the Presidency and dies in office, I am ready and willing to step into the position and take over for Sarah Palin. We all know that Palin is totally incapable of being President and I’m willing take over for her if it is needed.”
While many have disputed the readiness of Sarah Palin to take over the office of President should the need arise, the same criticism is not being levied at Fey who has held no political office and has never shown political aspirations. Fey outlined her prerequisites for the job.
“I’m a woman which is apparently very important. I wear designer glasses, again important. I’ve had a passport for many years; I’ve traveled to a number of different countries aside from Canada; I read; I’ve managed staff. Actually when you think about it I’m more qualified than Palin. I’ve actually been to Russia.”
Fey has tendered her offer for help to John McCain directly. He was reportedly “intrigued” by the possibility.
Should Fey have the opportunity to step into the Presidency she would of course not be the first entertainer. Her ascendancy of course would mark the first time a registered Democrat took over office for a Republican President, a fact which has gotten many tongues wagging around Washington.
“It’s a no loss for situation for the Democrats though it does increase the likelihood of a possible assassination attempt against McCain should he be elected,” said Scrape TV political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Republican’s can’t be too happy about the possibility but of course with McCain being a maverick and all that may not matter too much to him. Having a totally inexperienced person second in line to the Presidency is just the type of thing a maverick does. Of course that’s no different whether you have Fey or Palin in that position.”
The Democratic campaign had no comment on the offer, apparently in an attempt to downplay what could be a major issue for the electability of Barack Obama.
“If voters are more or less guaranteed a Democratic President then it really comes down to the issues. People can vote for whomever they like and not have to risk partisan shenanigans,” continued Kinsey. “It could really be a brilliant move that might just propel McCain into office and there is a fallback just in case he croaks.”
Fey did not fully clarify on what might happen to ’30 Rock’ should the need to take over the Presidency occur.
“This is all contingent on McCain being elected in the first place, let’s just keep that in mind,” continued Fey. “I think I could do both. Unlike Republicans, Democrats are able to multi-task and don’t have to suspend one job in order to start up another.”
