EVERYONE TO GET A CHANCE TO USE LIBYAN WEAPONS

Tripoli, Libya – The situation in Libya is still far from resolved. In fact, one could argue to that it is as potent and deadly as it ever has been. Gaddafi and his forces are nowhere to be found and the interim government has little or no real power. While the focus on the fight is keeping things somewhat stable for now, that will change in short order.
One of the biggest concerns that many people have is the availability of weapons in the country. It has long been known that Libya has been stockpiling many potentially deadly weapons including chemical weapons and, likely, nuclear material, weapons which have been well under the radar since the war in that country began.
Experts believe that rebel forces have taken charge of a great deal of that weaponry, but concerns abound that some may have ended up in loyalist hands, and thus in the control of a desperate and fateful man. Nonetheless, it does appear that the bulk of the chemical and nuclear weapons currently available in the country have at least been spread around, allowing just about anyone who wants a chance to get an opportunity to use them.
“We know there WMD’s in Libya. This isn’t a vague piece of intelligence, this is something we know. Mustard gas in particular is a concern. We know there are significant stockpiles throughout the country and we have little idea as to their quantities which could mean rebels have control of all or just part of it,” said a NATO spokesperson. “We are fairly confident that most nuclear material is in rebel hands, and that puts it under our watch but there are other destructive weapons out there.”
Saif Gaddafi, the son of Muammar, was also in rebel hands until he was released for no apparent reason.
“We believe it likely that the rebels have some of the weapons and the loyalists have some. It’s pretty spread around and that gives us some confidence that neither side will use them. That’s a good thing, we don’t want anyone using them,” continued the spokesperson. “We would guess that some of the weapons have been spread around fairly evenly and so that will limit power struggles between clans and tribes and that is also a positive. It’s pretty even distribution there.”
Estimates put mustard gas supplies at 11 tonnes, which is quite a lot. Most of that is under rebel guard.
“It is likely that some of these weapons have been hoarded away by Gaddafi and that they will unleash them when they believe they have an advantage which is exactly what you would expect of a desperate and only partially sensible man, but maybe the wide distribution of the weapons will give him pause, at least for a little while,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “By spreading these weapons as widely as possible it could very well limit the possibility that he will use them. It could not, because he is a little off, but it could and that possibility is what keeps them going and appears to be keeping people safe for now.”
Saif Gaddafi recently returned to the family home, without weapons of any kind.
