FILIPINO DWARVES CREATE COLONY, YELLOW BRICK ROAD
August 4 2011
Manila, The Philippines – Life is never easy for people who are different. They face ridicule, isolation, and taunts from mainstream society, even in advanced nations. As much as we would like to believe that such things aren’t a part of modern society,
prejudice is still a very potent thing. Social revolution, though, has an impact on such behaviours and that is exactly what a group of dwarves are planning.
The leader of that burgeoning revolution is Alejandro Doron Jr., a bartender at the only ‘dwarf bar’ in the country. The first stage of that revolt is the creation of a colony specifically for little people and already he has gained more than thirty willing participants. However finding the space and the money has been a little more difficult, and interference from wicked city officials isn’t helping the matter any.
“It's the natural attitude of the people ... I prayed that all my kids would be normal, but I have no choice – this is what God gave me,” said Doron. “But it's hard. Dwarves all over the country are the object of ridicule and shame and this is what we fight to end.”
Doron owns and runs the ‘Hobbit House’, a bar which probably does little to help integration.
“We are trying to create this colony so that dwarves have the opportunity to live and work in a prejudice free environment, a place where we no longer need to appear in kung-fu movies or oil wrestling rings. We want o live like people,” continued Doron. “We can create this colony where the little people of this country can live in peace and harmony, where nothing need interfere with us, where we can just be happy and sing songs all day.”
Adding to the expense of establishing the colony is Doron’s insistence on tiny little uniforms for all members of the colony.
“This, we do not believe, is a reasonable expenditure of funds. There have been efforts to create these types of colonies in other places but they have not proven to be successful. We are also concerned that this colony could create a prejudicial environment unto itself which would cause problems for administration,” said a government spokesperson. “Already we have had such issues going into heavily populated areas. They protect their own and anyone they feel will help them. This is not an environment we wish to promote. We also feel that their plans to create small homes and these strange yellow roads will interfere with city planning.”
Despite the lack of support, at least one average sized person has been supportive of the efforts.
“We wish nothing but good things for the people of this colony. They are a good people with a good soul and they have a wonderful spirit,” said Angeline Goodnow. “They are blessing and I will do whatever I can to protect them from the ills of the world. They must be allowed to live their lives free of the damages of the modern world.”
Doron and his supporters have been practicing their vocal harmonies as planning goes ahead.
