NIGER BECOMING THE GO-TO HOLIDAY DESTINATION FOR OUSTED LIBYAN STRONGMEN
September 13 2011
Niamey, Libya -When thinks of an exotic African vacation, few would think of Niger. With all the things to see in Africa; the pyramids, safaris, massive grasslands, the last place that most people would consider going to see those things is the tiny, land-locked country of Niger, a nation beset by drought and massive poverty. It’s not a dream vacation to be sure, unless of course you used to live in Libya.
Niger is exactly where the majority of former Libyan strongmen have headed after being pushed from power in their home country. With relatively little government interference, and almost no tourists to be seen, the nation has become a must-see destination for Libyans seeking refuge, and relaxation, something which has become a boon to the often desperate nation which sees little or no tourist money most of the time.
“We have information that Saadi Gaddafi has also come to our nation, to join many members of his family who have already been here for a number of weeks. We have not personally seen him but we hope that he will enjoy his stay in our country,” said a spokesperson for the Niger tourist board. “It is not often we have such high profile guests in our nation and so we are very pleased to have so many high ranking members of the Libyan government in our nation. This has been an unprecedented time for our nation in terms of tourism. We hardly know how to handle this many guests.”
Regular Libyans have also been travelling to the country in hopes of finding sun and relaxation, a welcome respite from the chaos in their own country.
“We have requested aid from other nations to help combat the difficulties inherent in dealing with this sudden rush of tourists. We aim to give them the best possible experience in Niger possible so that they can tell their friends and families of the good time they have had here. We aim to bring more and more tourists to our nation,” continued the spokesperson. “We are not equipped to handle these many people all at once and so we hope that the Gaddafi family, and all other visitors from our neighbour and friend of Libya, will forgive some of our shortcomings. We are doing the best that we are able to ensure that they have the best possible vacation experience while visiting our country.”
It’s believed that a number of high ranking officials outside the Gaddafi family have also started vacations in Niger, though the man himself has apparently decided to stay at home, at least for the time being.
“We have many things to offer the people of Libya, but also the people of the world. Niger is a beautiful nation full of many wonderful people. This is a great nation which will be a wonderful experience for travellers, not only for yourself but also for your families. This is nation of families and we welcome yours,” continued the spokesperson. “We hope that this is only the beginning of wonderful things for our tourist industry. We welcome all our friends and neighbours to the wonderful nation of Niger.”
Niger’s largest hotel chain, HUT, has offered a two for one deal on all outdoor dwellings for a limited time.
