ANGELA MERKEL WARNS OF WAR MEASURES IF EURO FAILS
October 26 2011
Brussels, Belgium – It was literally a lifetime ago when Europe was embroiled in the largest conflict in human history. Millions dead and a world transformed, for better and worse, and something that everyone involved pledged to not have happen again. While things have gotten close every now and then, thus far no such conflict has been waged again.
Human beings, being human beings, often don’t heed the warnings of the past and now with economic peril at the forefront of everyone’s minds, the kind of instability that led to that great war is very much in play. Again, at the head of it all, is Germany which is already starting to warn of harsh measures should the worst come to pass.
Speaking to the other member states of the EU, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made it clear that while her nation still stands behind the EU, things could change rapidly and that her nation is best suited to deal with that ripple, potentially setting the stage for yet another massive conflict across the continent.
“Nobody should take for granted another 50 years of peace and prosperity in Europe. They are not for granted,” said Merkel. “None of us can foresee what the consequences would be if we were to fail. It cannot be that sometime in the future they say the political generation responsible for Europe in the second decade of the 21 century has failed in the face of history.”
Merkel reportedly stormed out after the meeting, nearly knocking over the Austrian President in the process.
Germany recently approved a new loan to Greece in hope of giving that nation breathing room, at least for the time being.
“The situation across many countries is actually pretty dire, not quite critical yet, that shouldn’t be thought, but still dire. The Euro is in tough and it isn’t just because of Greece, though that is a major factor. We are seeing economic instability in countries such as Italy and France as well and if those countries fell, so too would the whole continent,” said Scrape TV European analyst Gillian Weismann. “At the heart of it is of course Germany. They have the largest economy in the Union and have really bankrolled a number of nations to try and keep them from defaulting. That simply cannot continue without raising the ire of the German people to an unacceptable level.”
Merkel has faced declining popularity in recent months due to her continued efforts to shore up the economies of other countries.
“This isn’t like a bad day at the store, where you just live with it and the next day things will return to normal. This is something that really does require a great deal of effort to resolve and without that effort, the whole thing could really fall apart,” continued Weismann. “In that case Germany would be forced to act, to move in and takeover many of these countries which have failed to resolve their economic situations and the way things are going, well they are going to have to take over major portions of the continent in order to shore up the whole thing and that is a major burden to everyone involved.”
Polish officials have reportedly asked for aid from Berlin but have received no response as yet.
