BRITISH NAVY THWARTED IN ATTEMPT TO ASSASSINATE MICHELLE OBAMA
October 15 2011
Cape Town, South Africa – it had all the makings of a major international incident, but luckily for the world and for the Obama family the Secret Service was on top of things in South Africa when the British Navy turned it’s guns on the First Lady of the United States.
The incident occurred last June when Michelle Obama took a trip to the nation. Luckily for the First Lady, and the world, Secret Service agents were on site and persuaded the British ship, the HMS Edinburgh, to turn its guns away from the suite where Obama was staying.
British officials insist that the giant cannons were loaded with blanks and that while officers originally refused to turn cannons away from the hotel, eventually they agreed.
“This is an incident which has been blown well out of proportion. The guns in question were loaded with dead rounds. The Secret Service simply asked us that and when our men assured them this was the case, they went away satisfied,” said a Navy spokesperson. “Out of respect, we decided to turn the guns away from the room where Mrs. Obama was staying so as not to inspire any more controversy. We had no desire to kill or maim the First Lady.”
The guns had been loaded with blanks as a part of a tribute to a sailor who had died a few days earlier. The White House had no comment on the situation.
“While I’m sure this incident really was nothing, anytime you point massive weapons

at the First Lady of the United States you are going to endure some criticism and the British Navy, well, they should have known better. You really shouldn’t be pointing guns at anyone, never mind an important person,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “It really doesn’t matter if there were blanks in the cannons or not. The very idea of pointing them at a hotel, no matter who was inside, is just a little silly. There can always be an accident, no matter how good the British Navy might be.”
The cannons were fired without incident later in the day towards the water. There was no accident.
“It could also be, and this is purely speculation, that they loaded the cannons with blanks while waiting to see whether or not anyone would react. They could then have just re-loaded them with live rounds before firing and done away with the First Lady right then and there, which likely would have prompted a pretty rough response from Washington,” continued Hander. “The Brits and the Americans have been allies for a long time but all it would have taken was one dead First Lady and that would have all been over. Generally, killing the wife of the leader of a nation puts countries at odds, even if was accidental. Those types of things do not go over very well in just about any nation.”
The Edinburgh had been scheduled to visit Washington following the incident, but was redirected shortly after wards. It’s not clear if the two incidents are connected. Obama apparently enjoyed her stay at the hotel.
