CANADIANS WILLING TO JUST LET THE ENVIRONMENT ROT BY EXITING KYOTO PROTOCOL
December 5 2011
Ottawa, Canada- No one ever said that saving the world would be easy, or cheap, something governments across the world are finding out the hard way. While few, even the sharpest of hawks, would admit that doing things like burning coal or oil are good for the environment, the cost associated with changing that way of doing business has always made any type of transition very challenging.
That, above every technical or political challenge, has been the biggest obstacle to changing the way in which we deal with the environment. Perhaps the most controversial effort to change the environmental situation has been the Kyoto Protocol. Designed to be the most comprehensive and widest reaching environmental agreement ever produced it has largely achieved that, but at a significant deficit to many of the countries involved, many of whom have struggled to meet the strict requirements of the agreement.
One of those countries, Canada, has now found itself in direct opposition to the requirements of the protocol owing to its rapid growth as an energy producer. Canada, it appears may end up being the first country to entirely exit the accord,
saving itself a lot of money, and damning the environment and future generations to a certain, stifling, demise.
“Canada is the only country in the world saying it won’t honor Kyoto,” said a spokesperson for Greenpeace. “They will likely trigger a cascade of countries leaving the accord, which will end up with the oceans polluted, the air unbreathable, and generations of children growing up, likely deformed, never seeing the sun in their short, painful, and miserable lives.”
Officially, the Canadian government has not said anything about leaving the Protocol but it would save billions by doing so, just as other countries would.
The country would be the first signatory to leave the protocol but likely would not be the last.
“The long term effects of nations leaving the protocol would be significant, there is no

debate on that. This is the best way we have of limiting the amount of pollutants we put into the air and perhaps the last bulwark we have against destroying the planet entirely. It’s really a shame that Canada is considering such an option, especially for the children. They just aren’t thinking of the children,” said Scrape TV Environmental analyst Tanner King. “Basically, by leaving this protocol they are setting the stage for the damnation of the planet. Canada leaving won’t cause the damage itself but it will likely act as a Trojan Horse that will result in the decimation of the environment and the human species, alongside all other species of life on the planet. It’s a nightmare scenario that, I guess, Canadians are just fine with. Guess they’ll have to take the polar bear off their money and put on a smokestack.”
The Royal Canadian Mint has not announced any plans to change the animals on their money which do include the polar bear, a loon, and the beaver which will all be killed with the destruction of the environment.
