GADDAFI DEAD; REBEL GOVERNMENT BEGINS CRUSHING CELEBRATIONS

October 20 2011

Tripoli, Libya – Forty-two years of subjugation, six months of war, and finally the people of Libya are free from Muammar Gaddafi. Rebels force finally moved on the capital city, pulled the long-time rulers and his supporters from power, and killed Muammar Gaddafi.gaddafi stunned

The triumph has undoubtedly been a long time coming for most Libyans, many of whom have never known life without Gaddafi in power. The long fought battle has been traumatic, killing thousands of innocent people, but now the war is in its end days and Libya finally has a new future.

Dealing with the immediate chaos, though, will be a tough challenge for the interim government. Undoubtedly, there will be loyalists who evade capture, and in a country deeply tied to tribalism, consolidating power into any single regime would be a challenge for any government, never mind an inexperienced one. However, the new government has already taken major steps towards quelling any potential discord in the country by cracking down on celebrations throughout the city.

“This is a great day for Libya and for the people of this country. This is a day which will live in memory for a very long time, a day of victory and of celebration. It a day of
freedom for all of this nation,” said a spokesperson for the interim government. “With the dictator Gaddafi gone the people of Libya will finally be free once again, free to be the great nation we were always designed to be. This is a great, great day for us all.”colonel gaddafi

Gaddafi was in power just shy of forty-two years, taking power in September of 1969.

“However people must not become carried away. We have seen great celebrations in the city of Tripoli and beyond but these things must not be out of control. We have been forced to order in troops to quell some of these celebrations and we will continue to do so so long as people become problematic,” continued the spokesperson. “We urge people to celebrate in a sensible and peaceful manner. If they do not, we will be forced to take action and to quell their behaviours. We will take all measures that are required.”

The spokesperson said that he and other members of the transitional government will govern celebrations to the last man.

“This is a great and really surprising day. I don’t think that many people would have libyan rebels celebrate
believed that this would ever have come. I had assumed that Gaddafi would hold onto power until he faded away naturally and most certainly did not think that any rebellion would push him from power,” said Scrape TV African analyst Claude Contee. “Of course people cannot allow themselves to get too carried away. Going too far with these celebrations will not help anyone and only cause more problems for the transitional government and potentially destabilize the city even further. It is a very good idea for people to just go back into their homes and not force the government’s hand. They have been given plenty of warning and now it is in their hands.”

Many Libyans have vowed to continue partying until the party is done.
