GERMANY MAY BE WILLING TO SACRIFICE GRIP ON GREECE FOR GREATER GOALS
September 17 2011
Berlin, Germany – Greece’s days may be numbered. After thousands of years and immeasurable contributions to the western world, the greatest nation the world has ever seen may be in its final days. Gripped by continued financial chaos, rioting in the streets, and a growing apathy from the rest of the world in respect to help, Greece may well be on its last legs.
To wit, it now appears that Germany may be willing to loosen its grip on the country and will simply allow to nation to pass or fail on its own. For Greece, that is most certainly bad news. For Germany, though, the move might free them up to conduct other operations throughout Europe and allow them to achieve their wider goals for the region.
“It feels like Germany is preparing itself for a debt default. Fatigue is setting in. Germany could be a first mover or other countries could be preparing too,” economist Jacques Cailloux told Bloomberg.
It’s believed likely that Greece will once again default on its payments, in particular in their payments to Germany herself.
“It may have finally come to the time when Germany will have to abandon Greece for the greater good. It has been a long standing, and very passionate, project for Chancellor Merkel and the German people but there comes a time when that has to be let go,” said Scrape TV European analyst Gillian Weismann. “It appears that time is
coming, inevitably, very soon. Very few people have any type of confidence that Germany can continue to sustain the Greek project much longer at all.”
Many economists are concerned that the continued instability, and the inability of the Greek government to implement austerity measures, will bring down the value of Euro and push the region closer to a recession.
Greek Prime Minster George Papandreou has stated his desire to free his country, but has done little to that end.
“It is perfectly sensible that the Germans abandon Greece once and for all. That move will free up a lot of resources and a lot of energy and allow them to pursue their other goals across the continent. It’s a bitter loss, surely, but it has come time to cut their losses or they will continue to lose,” continued Weismann. “With that new freedom they will be able to turn their energies towards other nations, perhaps spend more time in Austria, or even make moves towards aiding eastern nations like Poland, all for the greater good.”
It is expected that from those areas, Germany will be able to expand their influence over a wider swath of Europe.
“This move would be a good thing for the continent. Not so much for Greece herself, but for the rest of the countries who could really use Germany’s influence over their day-to-day operations. Most of them would also be a lot more compliant, which will help,” continued Weismann. “Eventually all the nations of Europe will benefit from the expansion of German aid and that will in turn make the continent a stronger and more stable place for everyone. Good for them.”
France has protested the plan, but no one is really listening.
