IRAN THIS CLOSE TO GETTING NUCLEAR WEAPONS
November 14 2011
Jerusalem, Israel – One day we may look back on 2011 with rose –coloured glasses, look back on the time with some longing for the past or some mournful wish that things could go back to the way they were. As rough as things seem to be right now, they could very easily get worse and likely will.
Iran, one way or the other, is pushing towards a nuclear confrontation. With rhetoric increasing across the region and across the world, one way or another, the issue of nukes in Iran is going to become an issue. That issue will either manifest itself with a new nuclear power, or with a war that could very easily spiral out of control. Something, though, is going to happen.
And that something could be happening sooner rather than later. After comments from the Israeli Prime Minister bringing fresh fears that the Iranian nuclear program is much further along than previously believed, it appears likely that war is imminent. Those words, whether accurate or not, mean that war is likely incoming and soon, whether Iran is this close, or this close, to acquiring nukes.
“Iran is closer to getting an atomic bomb than is thought. Only things that could be proven were written, but in reality there are many other things that we see,” said Benjamin Netanyahu to members of his cabinet.
Reports from the UN an IAEA have varied in terms of how close or far Iran is from acquiring some level of nuclear weaponry, but all have agreed that they are nearing that stage.
Israel has been the most vocal proponent of a strike against the country to try to prevent further development, an action which has been met with reticence from U.S. officials.
It’s not clear how Netanyahu came across his information, information that could not be acquired by experts and spies, though he apparently really, really believes it.
“One way or the other this is going to result in some kind of conflict. Netanyahu may or may not be correct but it almost doesn’t really matter. What is clear from his words is that he is really eager to go to war and is creating an environment primed for that, which itself is enough,” said Scrape TV Middle East analyst David Gershwin. “Israel really, really wants to attack Iran and I’m sure they are very frustrated that they aren’t being allowed to do that. I think eventually they are going to sneak out and do it anyway.”
Israel, it is believed, has the ability to strike but not wage a long term war against Iran. They have been patiently waiting for American permission before taking any action.
“Iran is close, very close, and they are getting closer by the day and that has to be of concern to everyone involved. The last thing Israel wants is someone else on their block with the same toy, but it appears that is exactly what’s going to happen whether they like it or not,” continued Gershwin. “I’m sure the Iranians are excited. They’ve been trying to get to this place for a long time and now they are finally here, well almost, just this close and that’s pretty exciting.”
Iran reportedly already has more uranium rods than Israel, which is also causing some friction between the two nations.
