IRANIAN PILOT SUSPENDED FOR NOT CRASHING PLANE AND EMBARRASSING THE REGIME

Tehran, Iran – The pilot of a passenger plane who last week prevented a near disaster by landing a plane on the rear wheels alone has been suspended from flying for two months. The pilot successfully landed the plane with 113 aboard without causing any injuries, a minor violation of the Iranian regime’s landing procedures which left him afoul of the law.
The incident, in which the front landing gear did not deploy, made headlines across the country and prompted the pilot to talk to a number of media outlets prior to his ban. Now though the pilot has become quiet, humbled by the ban and the outrage of the leadership in the country which had expected him to either land the plane without incident or fly it into the ground at high speed and kill everyone on board.
It’s not immediately clear how long the pilot has been flying or if he had been briefed on the official emergency procedures installed by the leadership.
“They have not even called to say thank you,” pilot Hooshang Shahbazi told a newspaper over the weekend, before he was prohibited from flying. It’s believed unlikely given the punishment that he will be thanked by anyone now.
He was thanked by the passengers, though not publicly, who quickly retreated to their homes fearing the wrath of the police and government should they speak out publicly on the incident.
Iran has suffered a number of embarrassing air-related events in recent years, all of which have been viewed as efforts to embarrass the regime by less-than-qualified pilots, mechanics, and other flight personnel, something which Shahbazi appears to have not taken seriously.
“This is a very awkward situation for everyone. The last thing anyone wants is for landing gear to not deploy, this is clear, and it simply should not have happened. The pilot in this case was responsible for the plane and everything on it and because things did not work properly he must take the blame,” said a spokesperson for the Iranian government. “We cannot have these types of incidents played out in the public realm and someone must pay for this case. These types of situations are simply intolerable.”
It’s not clear what type of outcome the Iranian government would have preferred or if slamming the plane into the ground could have been played off as a tragic incident, unrelated to other problems.
“Unfortunately the flight infrastructure in Iran is very poor, very poor indeed. The main airport only has one runway, something the pilot decided to avoid to further embarrass the leadership. As big a bark as the country has had in recent years, the bite really isn’t there and incidents like this reveal how fragile the nation really is,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “It is better for every involved that the plane did land safely but it is still embarrassing. Frankly, though, the pilot is lucky they didn’t make him pay for the repairs. That is pretty standard in these cases, or going to prison at the very least.”
The same pilot was also banned from driving for two months after narrowly avoiding a collision early last month.
