PAKISTAN STILL MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT ALL THOSE DEAD SOLDIERS

November 30 2011

Islamabad, Pakistan – It wasn’t as if the relationship between Pakistan and the United States was all that good to begin with, but the killing of two dozen soldiers certainly hasn’t helped the situation any. Protests on the streets, closed borders, and very harsh words have all worked to intensify the situation between the two supposed allies, and is threatening to undo everything they have collectively worked for in the region. pakistan protests

Amidst all the rhetoric and blame, there is a real issue. 28 soldiers, allies, were killed and whether that was an accident, bad data, or a deliberate misdirection by enemy forces, 28 soldiers are still dead. With so many problems already, the tipping point may have already been reached no matter how much the U.S. apologizes.

Of course the situation in Pakistan isn’t that simple. That country depends heavily on U.S. investments which would rapidly dry up if the conflict between the two countries were to escalate. And while few expect full out war, the tensions themselves and the decreased cooperation that comes a result of them could destabilize the region once again, which is why the U.S. is just trying to get the Pakistanis to chill and stop worrying about all the dead  soldiers.

“The average Pakistani who doesn’t know the United States, doesn’t read about the United States or just watches something on television about the United States, at that level, the relations are probably the worst they’ve ever been,” said General Martin. E. Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.pakistan protests

To that point, Pakistan announced that they will not be attending the Bonn conference in December if the United States is still going to attend.

The U.S. apparently has no intentions of not attending the conference, having already shipped truckloads of cookies and other perishables to the site.

“This is bad, no doubt about it. The situation is only getting more and more inflamed as time goes on and the U.S. seems unable to do anything about calming the situation. I think eventually it will subside because it is beneficial to both sides to affect a resolution but it’s going to be a hard road,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “It’s going to be particularly tough if Pakistan keeps up the rhetoric because eventually they are going to reach a place they can’t back down from and that is going to make things hard between the two countries.”pakistan effigy obama

Much of the blame for the tension between the two countries has been placed at the feet of Pakistan, which has only made them angrier.

“Ultimately unless they want to go to war, which they don’t, they will have to resolve these issues amicably. The two countries really do need each other for a variety of reasons and it is in their best interest to make things work, and to do that they will both have to accept some of the blame and the responsibility,” continued Hander. “The U.S. will have to stop killing Pakistanis, that really doesn’t help, and the Pakistanis will just have to be more tolerant of mistakes. If they can both make concessions they can work things out, but they have to both be willing to accept some of the blame.”

No Pakistanis have been killed by Americans since the latest incident, one of the few bright spots.
