SARKOZY GETTING READY TO SPLIT EUROPE IN TWO
December 12 2011
Paris, France – It’s been a long and hard battle but finally it appears that Europe and the Euro are starting to emerge from their darkest hour. Though it did not go as smoothly as leaders had hoped, the agreement made last week has quelled much of the market panic that had been gripping the currency of the region and allowed it to settle down.
That agreement did not come without a price, in particular the divide that formed between certain nations, specifically with the United Kingdom. That nation’s decision to reject the agreement was seen as many as a dangerous move for the EU, one that could have split loyalties and increased investor nervousness. As a result, Britain has found herself very much on the outside of things.
That, though, does not appear to be something that is going to happen anytime soon, leaving the leadership in the EU with little choice but to cut out the British entirely and draw a line down the centre of the continent, excluding members who decide they don’t want to play the game the way it needs to be played.
“We did everything, the chancellor and I, to allow the British to take part in the agreement. But there are now clearly two Europes,” said French President Nicolas Sarkozy. “One wants more solidarity between its members and more regulation. The other is attached only to the logic of the single market.”
Britain is believed to be the leader of that second Europe. It is likely that many other countries will be forced to follow, mostly eastern European nations and Greece, provided Europe 1 is able to shed them.
It’s not clear if Europe 2 will be willing to take on Greece or any of the other financially troubled nations. No one, it appears, wants Armenia, except Turkey of course.
“I think, unfortunately, this split is much more severe than people would like to believe. Name calling has already begun and once that starts, well you can never really be sure where that will end. Calling people names almost always leads to headaches and bad feelings,” said Scrape TV European analyst Gillian Weismann. “It was probably a bad move by the British. I don’t know if they maybe thought that by pulling out everyone else would follow suit but obviously that isn’t the case. Everyone else liked the agreement, it was only Britain who said no. I’m sure they won’t be alone in their new Europe but they won’t have anyone worth having.”
Most of the countries left are crappy, or Russia, which doesn’t need Britain one bit.
“Unless Britain does indeed move the country to the middle of the Atlantic as they have been planning they are certainly going to have trouble making this work, this new Europe. I mean they don’t appear to have a choice. Sarkozy has made his decision and the French almost never turn over, almost. Hopefully this new Europe will work out for them,” continued Weismann. “Trade will be difficult and the financial institutions are still largely tied to each other and so it’s going to be tough on the country, but they don’t really appear to have a choice so they have to make the best of it I guess.”
Europe 2 is not the official name. It’s believed likely that both sides will lay claim to the name.
