SYRIA PROMISES TO KEEP KILLING UNTIL THE KILLING IS DONE

November 21 2011

Damascus, Syria – “Syria will not bow down and that it will continue to resist the pressure being imposed on it,” those words were spoken by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the Sunday Time of London on a day when his forces once again led a crackdown in the country, killing another 12 people.syria rioters

That, of course, has been the standard line from the Syrian government over the last months as it has tried to quell the ongoing protests that have crippled the nation. Thus far, according to the United Nations, at least 3500 people have been killed in those conflicts, a number which continues to climb without pause.

And it does not appear that a pause is in the offing anytime soon with nations around the world hesitant to step in and the Assad government steadfastly refusing to accede to the will of the people. Even partners such as Iran have asked Assad to tone down the violence and try to resolve the problems peaceably, but Assad has remained ever defiant, promising to keep killing until the killing is done, something he will determine himself.

“The only way is to search for the armed people, chase the armed gangs, prevent the entry of arms and weapons from neighbouring countries, prevent sabotage and enforce law and order,” continued Assad when asked what his solution to the months-long conflict will be. “Each spilt drop of blood concerns me personally. But my role as president is in deeds, not words and sorrow.”bashar al assad

On Monday close ally Turkey also called on Assad to step down, something he just dismissed outright.

Thus far, foreign powers have been unwilling to step in to deal with the Assad regime as was done in Libya, hoping that it will resolve itself, something that is seeming more and more unlikely.

“He is determined, you have to give him that. You may not like all the killing and bloodshed but you have to admire him for his focus and determination, something that most people just wouldn’t have, especially at his age. Gaddafi sure, but Assad is different,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “He could have stepped aside and lived in relative peace and comfort for the rest of his life but now, well now it’s a kill or be killed kind of situation and if he wants to get out of it the only way he is going to do that is through more killing.”

And more killing is exactly what Assad appears ready to do.bashar al assad happy

“It’s become pretty clear that killing is his business and business is good. People are just lining up to be shot. I mean a dozen a day is really an incredible number. I don’t know of any other country where a President could get away with killing a dozen or more people a day and still be in power,” continued Hander. “Generally we thought of Syria as little more than a sock puppet, working for Iran and a little soft in the heart and head themselves but obviously that isn’t the case. I mean if slaughtering civilians were a race, Assad would be way ahead of the rest of the field and I frankly didn’t think that was in him. He’s probably surprised himself in all of this and I’m sure he’s just going to want to see it through now, no matter where it ends.”

In store for Monday? More killing.
