U.S. AND CHINA SCARED OF A GIRL IN TAIWAN

September 16 2011

Taipei City, Taiwan – Politics is certainly not what is used to be, though it is exactly the same. As long as nations have existed one country has always been interested in the politics of another, particularly when those two are tied together for one reason or another. That is certainly the case for Taiwan which has the concerns of two most powerful nations on the planet impacting their every move.Tsai Ing-wen

In particular, the rise of one candidate in the upcoming Presidential election has both China and the United States deeply concerned. The rising profile of Tsai Ing-wen has both countries fearful, fearful that her policies will destabilize trade in the region, and possibly cause a conflagration between the tiny island and her nemesis across the Strait. Mostly though, they are afraid of exactly what will happen when a girl takes power in an area of the world not used to powerful chicks.

“She left us with distinct doubts about whether she is both willing and able to continue the stability in cross-Strait relations the region has enjoyed in recent years,” a senior U.S. official told the Financial Times after a visit to the region earlier this year.

Tsai is the opposition leader but is widely expected she will gain power in the January election. Taiwan is the home territory of the Republic of China, which most on the cooking and cleaning
island see as the rightful rulers of the Chinese mainland. The People’s Republic of China sees it differently.

“There are always going to be concerns when a new government comes into power in Taiwan, but this in particular will be an issue. There is a real possibility that Tsai will start to deliberately provoke the other China, particularly when it comes the Strait of Taiwan. Things have changed in recent years, for the better, between the two countries and that is in peril now,” said Scrape TV Asian analyst Wu Yao-nu. “Make no mistake, Tsai is a trouble maker, but what else would one expect from a woman. This is going to be a major challenge for all sides of this concern.”

Many in Washington and Beijing are concerned that the reforms made in recent years, in respect to an improved relationship between the two China’s, will not be maintained if Tsai takes power. They are also apparently concerned that laundry and meals will be neglected at home. Tsai is not married.Tsai Ing-wen

“The last thing anyone in this debate wants or need is a fresh debate. A lot of advances have been made in recent years and both China and the U.S. would like that to not only stay, but to continue to grow. Of course women have a mind of their own and that could possibly imperil the advances which have been made,” continued Wu. “Of course we do not truly know. The last thing U.S. and Chinese officials should be doing is trying anticipate what is in the mind of a woman. That is never a good idea and rarely works out well. One would think that they have learned this already, but that is apparently not the case. That alone could get them into trouble.”

Tsai will reportedly hire a housekeeper to help maintain her personal residence if she is elected. It’s not clear if Tsai will ever take a husband.
