U.S. PLOTTING MASSIVE MILITARY CAMPAIGN AGAINST FORMER ALLY PAKISTAN

October 3 2011

Washington, D.C. – There is perhaps no better description of the relationship between the United States and Pakistan than the old adage of better the Devil you know. That is true for both sides who have walked a very thin line between cooperation and conflict since they first became strong allies following the 9/11 attacks.bin laden house

Now, as often happens in such relationships, things have turned extremely tense between the two nations, with the U.S. possibly on the verge of declaring Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism.

The fracture came, of course, with the killing of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan right under the nose of Pakistani security. Since that time, the tensions between the two countries have only increased, to the point where both sides are considering a formal end to their partnership. The U.S., though, doesn’t take such rejection very well and is apparently considering a massive military campaign, generally called a war, to try and bring the country back into line with U.S. plans.

“This is as tense as things have gotten between the two countries and things do not seem to be improving. Both sides have started to antagonize each other and, frankly, the U.S. doesn’t take very kindly to that kind of thing. It’s not so much the attitude, it’s the feeling of betrayal that has really gotten to them and it’s that that is causing the bulk of the problems,” said a U.S. insider. “They aren’t at the stage of actually committing to war but let’s just say that it’s on the table and we have a lot of troops and materials in that area. At this stage, it’s really up to Pakistan as to whether or not they want to continue down this path.”haqqani

The most recent flare up came after comments from Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar which alluded to the U.S. actually conducting operations against its own people and blaming it on Pakistan. The alleged involvement by Pakistan with the Haqqani Network has also been a thorny issue.

“Let’s just say that the Pakistanis would be well advised to tone down the rhetoric. There are always going to be tensions in relationships between nations even good friends but there is no reason to deliberately cause problems and that is very much what Pakistan is doing. They know the U.S, doesn’t like what they are doing but they are doing it anyway and that really does need to stop,” continued the insider. “We aren’t all that good at just taking things like that. Well, I mean we take it all the time from Iran and North Korea and Cuba and whole bunch of other people but they were never really friends to begin with. It’s different with Pakistan and they need to know that.”us warship

The Pentagon has made public statements that they are willing to attack Haqqani members of Pakistani soil should the government not act, which likely wouldn’t go over very well.

“Essentially, when you deploy military assets and make attacks against a country you are at war and if the U.S. starts doing that, for whatever reason, well that would kind of be war and they won’t be all that happy,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “Hopefully though they can get back together. There is no reason for this to good bad at this stage, not after so many years, and so hopefully they will be able to make it work. It would be a shame to see things collapse.”

Neither side has been talking much in recent days.
