CANADIAN NAVAL OFFICER SHARES STATE SECRETS; CANADA HAS A NAVY, SECRETS
January 19 2012
Ottawa, Canada – Ask any Canadian and they will tell you all about their great military past. They will tell you about the War of 1812 when they fended off American aggression. They will tell you about the sacking of Washington D.C. when their forces burnt the White House to the ground in 1814. They will tell you how Canadian forces didn’t lose a single battle in World War I and how they advanced further inland than anyone else on D-Day. All of this is of course true, recorded in history books and everything, but all of it is very much in the past.
While Canada does have a strong, even grand military past, the modern version of the Armed Forces have not quite lived up to that reputation for a variety of reasons, a reality which upsets some in the country and inspires apathy in most. Now though, the Canadian Armed Forces have a fresh scandal to call their own.
Two years removed from the serial killer scandal of Russell Williams, the Canadian Armed Forces are facing another crisis after it was revealed that a naval officer shared state secrets with a foreign power, shocking Canadians and the world not only with the scandal, but also that Canada does indeed still have a navy and secrets worth selling.
“The RCMP has charged a Canadian Forces employee in Halifax, Nova Scotia with offences under the Criminal Code and the Security of Information Act - including
breach of trust and communicating safeguarded information to a foreign entity without lawful authority. As this case is before the Court and because this investigation is ongoing, there is little detail that the RCMP can disclose at this time and it will not provide further comment on it,” the RCMP wrote in a statement.
The spying apparently began more than four years ago and, it appears, the secrets were sold to Russia which is kind of an ally.
It’s believed that that some of the secrets sold to the Russians included a the long-held Maple Syrup formula, a recipe for butter tarts, and the real reason Nickelback has become so successful. Russia has not commented on the case.
“This is really a breach of security on a scale that should not happen. I mean it happens all the time, look that the Bradley Manning/Wikileaks saga but it isn’t
something that really happens in Canada. The real shocker though it that Canada has anything worth buying. I mean these secrets that have been revealed would be somewhat valuable especially if the Russians can stop Nickelback, but hardly worth much in the grand scheme which indicates that there may be something much bigger that was sold,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “I’m also very surprised that Canada has kept its Navy. Maybe that’s the secret. I mean that is something possibly worth buying. Though I do have to say that butter tarts are very delicious, especially with raisins. I doubt that the Russians will be able to replicate them, they put vodka and aggression into everything, but if that is what was revealed, well there may no longer be a need for Canada anymore, especially if they know how to stop things like Nickelback and refuse to do anything about it.”
Nickleback, currently planning a European tour, had no comment.
