CHINA WILL PROBABLY KEEP BUYING OIL FROM WHOMEVER THEY DAMN WELL PLEASE

January 12 2012

Beijing, China – Iran is likely going to be an ongoing issue for a long time. Now, as they move towards enriching uranium and executing American spies, the situation is perhaps as dire as it ever has been. Israel is on the razor’s edge and American strength and resolve is being tested at every turn. It’s a complicated situation and one that could spiral out of control at any moment.oil rigs

Further complicating matters is the complicity of other nations in the Iranian nuclear program, particularly Russia and China. Ostensibly allies and in the latter case an essentially trading partner, both nations have not only maintained relations with Iran but actually helped push their nuclear program even further ahead, making them both very awkward partners for western nations.

Now though the United States feels they are finally starting to make progress with at least one of those partners, China, as they encourage them to participate in the oil purchase embargo against Iran. Outwardly China has been receptive the efforts, which are designed to pressure Iran to relinquish their nuclear ambitions, but behind the scenes little appears to have changed and China will likely continue to buy oil from anyone who will sell it to them, especially at the discounted prices Iran is now offering.

“We are in the early stages of a broad global diplomatic effort to take advantage of this new legislation to significantly intensify the pressure on Iran. We are telling the Chinese what’s important to us and they are listening,” a senior U.S. official told the Financial Times.“We have a reasonable shot at getting a number of countries to wean themselves off Iranian oil.”  timothy geithner

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is currently in Beijing trying to encourage the Chinese to pull away from Iran.

Chinese officials have reportedly been saying nasty things behind Geithner’s back, out of the range of translators of course but roughly translated to ‘Stupid white man with big nose.’

“Getting China in particular to pull support from Iran would be a real coup. It won’t stop the nukes getting made, those guys in Iran are nuts and nothing seems likely to stop them at this stage, but at least it would be a moral victory. Probably won’t happen though,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “I mean Iranian oil must be at near fire sale prices at this stage and that is exactly the kind of thing China will go nuts over. I don’t mean any kind of bad gag about Chinese people being cheap, just they need lots of oil and getting it cheap is good for that. That’s all I meant.” wen jiabao

The price of Iranian oil has not officially changed, but China may be getting a deal on bulk purchases.

“Look, China needs more oil than the world can provide and they are going to buy from whomever they damn well please. In theory, angering the Americans could result in not being able to buy from U.S. partners but in practice that isn’t going to happen. Really, China will keep buying cheap oil from Iran no matter what they say,” continued Hander. “I’m sure Geithner will go home impressed with himself and tell the President all about his trip, but it is likely that he actually will accomplish little and the oil will just keep flowing from Iran to China without so much as a hiccup, and at great prices.”

Geithner does speak Mandarin and apparently heard the comment about his big nose, though didn’t take it personally.
