HUGO CHAVEZ WILLING TO RECONSIDER RELATIONS WITH U.S. IF OBAMA IS REELECTED
January 28 2012
Caracas, Venezuela – Like every election in the United States, the entire world is watching. As the modern Rome, the U.S. is usually the centre of attention for a whole lot of reasons but it is during election time when that really ramps up. In fact, most people around the world seem to care more about the U.S. elections then their own, a trend which appears to be continuing into 2012.
Around the world nations of all description are watching the election process with bated breath, waiting see what the next step of the story will be, waiting to see which twist and turn comes next. That is, in essence, the core of American politics. A tale to be told, like the best Hollywood has to offer, only in this case the resolution has real world effects.
Virtually every country in the world is impacted by U.S. elections in some fashion. Some are major trading partners, others are antagonists, others are both but regardless of the relationship, the outcome of the election does matter. Arguably there is no country within the United States’ direct sphere of influence more impacted by the election than Venezuela which has been both friend and foe for many years.
Now though, Hugo Chavez has extended a kind of olive branch to its strange neighbour, provided of course that Barack Obama wins, pledging to open up relations with the country once again, under certain conditions of course.
“Here we're going to win the elections on October 7 and Obama is probably going to win. With us winning here... if Obama wins there... hopefully we can shake hands again and talk and have better relations,” said the Venezuelan leader in a statement.
The relationship between the two countries has remained largely unchanged since the election of Obama.
Venezuela is a major oil provider to the United States, and easily its greatest source of fiery rhetoric is the western hemisphere.
“This could be great news, provided that Chavez is serious. And of course provided he doesn’t die of cancer before the election which is a real possibility. It is the first time in a long time that he has made any kind of effort to reach out and cool the relations between the two countries. Hopefully, if Obama wins, he will take it for what it is and accept the offer,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “These types of offers are rare and Obama should jump on it before it evaporates. It is actually remarkably gracious of Chavez and could mark the start of a new type of relationship between the countries.”
Chavez may change his mind before the election. He tends to do that.
“Hopefully this isn’t the cancer having gone to his brain. Hopefully he genuinely wants to build up new relations with the U.S., to allow them back into the fold. That would be great news for Americans as whole who have long wanted that relationship,” continued Hander. “On the other hand, if Obama doesn’t win it could be something else entirely and that is not something anyone wants, I think. I think if this does anything at all to effect the election it should help Obama. Everyone wants to be in Venezuela’s good graces after all.”
Chavez also loves Ron Paul, but probably wouldn’t vote for him.
