IRAN MAY NOT WANT TO SELL ITS OIL TO EUROPE ANYWAYS
January 26 2012
Tehran, Iran – The block is certainly getting hot, especially in the neighbourhood around Iran. Just days after the U.S. and other countries imposed new banking sanctions on the atomically-inclined nation, and in the midst of ongoing war games in the Strait of Hormuz, the country has started to face a new threat as the European Union starts to threaten an oil embargo on the nation, something which could cripple the Iranian economy.
Now though, Iran has struck back, saying that they may pre-empt the European embargo by creating an embargo of their own, saying in fact that they don’t even really want to sell oil to Europe anyways, and that they were always just doing them a favour in the first place, a favour that can easily be ended if it’s not wanted anymore.
“At the first open session of parliament next week, we will pursue sanctions against Europe. It could happen next week, not in six months as Europe has claimed the boycott will begin. Not only Iran's oil exports to Europe will be stopped until the next five years, but Iran's exports to Europe will also stop,” said Mohammad Karim Abedi of the Iranian National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
Abedi also added things about European burning in fire, ending Europe, and stuff like that which is fairly common in the country.
It’s believed that Europe will transition from Iranian oil to sources from Canada as well as powering vehicles on self-absorption and snootiness, the latter a process which has still not been perfected.
“It’s pretty clear at this stage that the embargoes are starting to have an effect on Iran. They are starting to slip a little bit and have even started to make talk about having talks. They have agreed to inspectors and their resolve has certainly started to fray in recent weeks. Right now it looks positive, but of course you never really know with Iran,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “Ideally this is the solution. Going to war with Iran is a really formidable prospect and not something that should be taken lightly. Hopefully it will never come to that point because the sanctions and embargoes are having an effect.”
It’s not clear if Iran will engage in those discussions if Europe is involved after this latest scuffle.
“The reality is that Iran needs to sell oil to as many people as it can to stay afloat. It has oil but that’s about it and if they decide they don’t want to sell to Europe anymore, well that could be a kind of self-imposed embargo. There are only so many countries in the world needing to buy oil, at least at the price Iran wants to sell it, and a lot of them are in Europe,” continued Hander. “Of course this could just be a bluff, perhaps even just another chance to threaten someone, anyone, with fiery death. It wouldn’t really be Iran if they weren’t talking about someone burning in flames. That’s just kind of the way things go there and it’s good to see that at least that hasn’t changed.”
EU officials are apparently a little offended after being called names by Iran, but have chosen not to make a big deal about it.
