ONE IN FIVE GERMANS TURNING A BLIND EYE TO THE HOLOCAUST, AGAIN

Berlin, Germany – The most amazing thing about the Second World War, perhaps the amazing period in the history of humanity, was the ability for humans to deal with such mass death. Never before had people died at the rate people died in that conflict yet we moved on from it, largely unaffected. While most of that ability to recover is undoubtedly being able to ascribe the deaths to the nature of war, many of the millions who died in that conflict were not warriors at all, yet still their deaths are something we have gotten over.
Average estimates put at least 15 million people having died in the holocaust, at least 6 million of which were of Jewish origin. Most of those people were neighbours, friends, work and school mates yet people throughout Europe, and really around the world, turned a blind eye as they were shoved into ovens. Germans in particular were guilty of that and now a new generation appears to be doing very much the same thing, forgetting all about the atrocities of the past and likely setting up the nation to once again butcher millions of innocent people for no real reason at all.
A poll surveyed more than a 1000 German youths and found that 21 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 had no idea that Auschwitz once housed a concentration camp, and were incredulous that such a thing could happen. So incredulous, in fact, that they simply could not believe that it happened at all and that the poll was simply a lie made up by Jews.
The poll was conducted by Stern news, a Jewish publication which is mostly factual.
“This is actually a very unsettling thing, that young people have no idea what happened in relatively recent history. I can certainly understand that they might not know where Auschwitz is, I mean who cares what’s in Poland at all but not knowing the event occurred at all is a little unsettling, and then of course they just don’t believe it could have happened at all is just as problematic,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “Very few people want something like the holocaust to happen again and the best way to prevent that is to remember what happened in the past. Well, maybe not the best way but that will certainly help. Knowing what went on in the past helps us to learn from our mistakes and move forward in a positive way. Denial is never a good thing.”
It’s not clear what percentage of those surveyed flat out denied that anything bad happened, or what percentage blamed the Jews.
“Not knowing about Auschwitz doesn’t necessarily mean that it will happen again, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t either. The best option is to inundate people with images and history of what happened to scare them into not letting it happen again, or prompting them to make it happen, which could be a result,” continued Hander. “I think it’s pretty safe to say that most people around the world hope this doesn’t happen again and if teaching these young Germans about what they grandparents did to these poor innocent people does something to prevent that, it’s a good thing, probably, unless it just builds resentment which can be very dangerous.”
One third of those polled denied taking part in the poll.
