PROSECUTORS WANT TO ENSURE MUBARAK GETS THE DEATH PENALTY ONE WAY OR THE OTHER

January 6 2012

Cairo, Egypt – The collapse of the Egyptian government last year was easily the most shocking of all the developments in the region. No one really thought much about Tunisia, after all, and everyone really expected Libya to go sour, but no one could have predicted that the regime held with an iron fist by Hosni Mubarak for decades could have slipped easily, but it did, almost without a fight.hosni mubarak trial

There was some fighting of course and now Mubarak is facing charges for those actions. While certainly the least damaging of all of Mubarak’s actions during his long stay at the top, the prosecution of the former leader is really more a lifetime achievement award, punishment for all the decades of death and misery he inflicted on the people of Egypt.

Undoubtedly, Mubarak will be convicted. Aside from the mountains of evidence against him, the public desire to see him punished will likely outweigh any sense of modern jurisprudence. Even if he somehow avoids conviction on the immediate charges, he will be charged with something else. That is the least the public deserves. And the least Mubarak deserves, so most people in the country believe, is death which is exactly what prosecutors are trying at every opportunity to make happen.

"The prosecution demands the maximum penalty against Mubarak and the rest of the accused, which is death by hanging. The killing of one person calls for a death penalty so what would the court say in a case where hundreds have been killed,” said Mustafa Khater, a member of the prosecution team.hosni mubarak egypt

Mubarak, who is in ill health, has repeatedly stated his innocence. While not spoken, it is assumed that he also does not want to be hanged or executed in some other fashion.

Prosecutors have also created a backup plan for the possibility that the prosecution doesn’t go as planned which involves a series of bumps and dips in the pathway along which Mubarak’s stretcher is pushed.

“Mubarak is evil man and he must pay for what he done. God will see that he pays for his actions against the Egyptian people. God is great and he will do what needs to be done against this evil man,” said a local man outside the courthouse who participated in the uprising last year and just can’t let it go.

Across the country many who participated in that revolt have continued to rebel against the interim government, fearful that the new regime will be as bad as the last and having a good time reuniting with their old friends, at least the ones Mubarak did not have killed.hosni mubarak court

“Mubarak in many ways has already paid. He lost his position, his power, and has been relegated to little more than a criminal. People like this don’t control nations for money or to better the nation, they do it for their egos and everything that he built up for his ego has been destroyed now. That alone is death for him, knowing that everything he spent his life building has been undone forever,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “A conviction and execution is just the final nail. He has already been humbled and he will die, either in a hospital bed or on the gallows, knowing that humility which is like dying already. I mean not literally dying of course, but like dying. Similar anyways. Well it has to suck at least.”

Prosecutors are also considering grinding up glass and feeding it to Mubarak, or jumping out from the darkness wearing a really scary mask should the prosecution fail.
