IDF CLAIMS THAT EVERYTHING ANYONE DOES IS TERRORISM
February 25 2009
Tel Aviv, Israel – With war crime charges coming in fast and furious, Israeli Defence Force officials are up in proverbial arms. With the conclusion of ‘Operation Cast Lead’ countries across the world are making accusations of war crimes against the Israeli forces. While none of those are coming in an officially recognized form, specifically from The Hague, IDF officials are still protesting the existence of such charges and calling them ‘legal terrorism’.
“The goal is achieved when the charges are publicized,” said Colonel Liron Liebman. “The objective is to cause damage to morale, more than legal damage.”
Of course the protest of the charges, which few people believe will ever result in prosecution, is bringing global awareness to the situation that otherwise would not have happened.
“Most people are really just getting bored with the Israeli – Palestinian conflict and when things like this come up they generally aren’t reported. One of the most vocal critics of the Israelis and one that has brought some of these charges against the IDF is Spain. I mean, Spain. When was the last time they had any play in
global politics? Maybe the Spanish-American War, maybe,” said Scrape TV Middle East analyst David Gershwin. “It’s the Israelis themselves that are making this into a big deal, which they are wont to do. Whether it’s a feeling of genuine victimhood, some kind of political positioning, or some kind of profound psychosis is something we may never understand.”
Spain has long been in a battle with domestic terrorism, specifically the ETA (English: Basque Homeland and Freedom) rather unsuccessfully. Israeli is the largest recipient of US foreign aid, most of which goes towards weapons and armour. Spain does not receive any significant aid from the United States though few see these charges as a ploy to elicit support.
“There are many in the world that do not see a major military force attacking a rag tag group of untrained combatants, destroying thousands of civilian homes, and killing hundreds of innocent people as justified. Israel has their own view of things and that of course involves
fighting daily missile attacks but they need to understand that just because they want people to believe what they believe, that doesn’t make it so. Other people are entitled to their opinions just as other countries are,” continued Gershwin. “There are times when it seems like Israel feels like they are the only country in the world but they aren’t. If a country wants to make themselves feel like moral crusaders fighting for the right thing by bringing up puffy charges that will go nowhere then they have that right. Israel complaining about it though makes them look like whiners.”
Some are concerned though that the nature of the conflict in Gaza will be difficult to defend owing to the relative anonymity of the Hamas fighters and being able to discern them from civilians caught in the crossfire. A fear many believe IDF officials are also feeling.
“In a situation like this it’s very difficult to ascertain who is friendly and who is not, especially when no one is all that friendly to begin with. Everyone understands that there will be civilian casualties in any war but it’s the percentage that matters. How many civilians versus how many combatants,” continued Gershwin. “If Israel weren’t already prone to overreacting one would have to think they have something to cover up.”
Overreacting to situations is something many have accused the Israelis of in the past. From their attacks against militants in the Palestinian Territories, to conflicts in Lebanon many have seen the Israeli response as disproportionate to the threat and rarely going far enough to actually solve the problem, leading to a cycle of conflict and victimhood on both sides of the conflict.
“When a child overreacts to a query from an adult it’s generally because they realize that they have done something wrong, at least on a subconscious level. That is the core reason for tantrum,” said Scrape TV Psychology analyst Dr. Sarah Welp. “When it comes to adults quite often what can happen is if a person feels they are being put upon, whether justifiably or not, they lash out. The question that first needs to be answered in regards to Israel is are they a child or an adult? Once that is determined then one could move forward on treating the patient. My first inclination is to think that Israel is behaving in a childlike manner, as are their neighbours. Of course they aren’t really fighting over slides and swings. Well they are, just ones riddled with bullets.”
