LATIN WORLD EMBRACES FRITZLMANIA

Bogota, Colombia - Frit-zl – noun: A Germanic language surname, common in Germany and Austria.  Ma -ni-a – noun: An excessively intense enthusiasm, interest, or desire; a craze.

Occasionally events occur that take the world by storm. Often times those events are religious or political in nature. Sometimes, such as was the case with Beatlemania in the 1960’s a pop culture event can so enrapture the world that it takes over people’s rational sensibilities. Sociologists and psychologists have long sought the cause of such outbreaks but have for the most part come up empty. Marketers have long sought the answers to such phenomenons as well, seeking to exploit them for financial gain. Through the history of mass manias though never has an occurrence like that which is sweeping the world today taken place.

Fritzlmania as it has come to be called has become a bona fide worldwide phenomenon with cases turning up all over Europe Asia, and now South America. Though a hobby common in much of the rural world, never before have so many cases arisen in the public eye at once, leaving many researchers with the nagging question of whether or not to embrace incest the world over.

“Occasionally we see these groupings of cases and it continually baffles researchers no matter what the context. Aside from the obvious popular examples there have been laughing fevers and believe it or not dancing fevers. Some of those can be attributed to illness or infection but other times it is a genuine well spring of interest,” said Scrape TV Psychology analyst Dr. Sarah Welp. “The most recent example is the Miley Cyrus phenomenon. There is no rational reason for
anyone to be a fan of her but she is ubiquitous and people spend fortunes associating themselves with her. Many of course regret that in later years but in the time it is perfectly rational. This recent outbreak of incest and forced imprisonment is really not a whole lot different than the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus mania in the way it has taken world by storm.”

Aside from the Josef Fritzl incident, similar cases have arisen in Turin, Mumbai, and now in central Colombia making a truly global phenomenon. The newest case also shows signs not only of continued growth of the incestuous embrace, but an upping of the ante with 8 children borne of the union as opposed to Fritzl’s 7.

“The level of attention that was given the Fritzl case as well as the bizarre circumstances surrounding it will likely make that incident the standard bearer for the
phenomenon until someone completely outdoes him. Regardless the Fritzlmania moniker is likely to stay because he has become so iconic,” continued Welp. “It will be an interesting thing to watch unfold and see if really takes hold like other mass media explosions have done. Will we see Fritzl lunchboxes? Videogames? The Wii of course would be the natural platform for that. If marketers can find a way to harness this happenstance you can bet they will.”

Many are expecting just that, hoping that a global phenomenon will help spark economic recovery at least on a small scale.

“Incest isn’t going to suddenly cure the banking problem or the credit crisis but it could put a lot of people back to work. One of the most important parts of economic recovery is getting people to spend again. You never know what might happen if a major publicly traded got on the incest bandwagon,” said Scrape TV
Business analyst Ken Green. “For that to happen though I would think there would need to be an incident inside the United States. While it’s unlikely that you would have an organic usurpation of Josef Fritzl, the American marketing machine could turn just about anyone into a star. All they need to do now is find that star and we could be one our way to economic revival.”

Reportedly the search is well underway with talent agencies actively scouring the southern US for prospects.
