POOR COUNTRIES GOING ABSOLUTELY AND TOTALLY INSANE
March 14 2009
Managua, Nicaragua – There’s little doubt that a lot of people having been panicking of late. From global warming, to the global war on terror, to the global recession there’s not a whole lot for people to remain positive about. Of course things could be worse, we could all live in Nicaragua.
Aside from the endemic poverty, poor living conditions, low life expectancy, and vampire invasions it now appears that at least parts of the country are de-evolving into stark raving lunacy. Reports from northern Nicaragua indicate that at least 43 people from a small village have fallen victim to what is locally called ‘grisi siknis’, or more the eloquently translated ‘crazy sickness’.
“Symptoms can include tremors, difficulty breathing, and falling into a trance like state. So far there doesn’t seem to be any explanation for the occurrences but of course they have limited medical resources in that area,” said Scrape TV Medical analyst Dr. Phillip Waites. “A
similar occurrence happened in the same area in 2003 and that would lead one to believe that it’s environmental in some way, or possibly witchcraft. Generally speaking people don’t just suddenly go insane, at least on a mass level like this unless there is some kind of external influence.”
It has been reported that the majority or people affected by the occurrences of madness are women but it is not expected that the occurrences are a result of them specifically being women.
“Many of the occurrences have happened in the vicinity of a large river which very well could be the source of whatever is affecting the people in this village. In a rural environment it’s quite common for women to wash clothing and dishes in the river which would cause significantly more exposure than someone not spending as much time in the water,” continued Waites. “Of course if it’s witchcraft it could be that these women are being cursed because of their sins or some other such offense. Again though, that’s very unlikely.”
Similar incidents have been reported in regions of Africa but those have been primarily attributed to delusional mass hysteria and manipulation by fanatical religious leaders. Another similar incident occurred in 2005 in Chechnya. 100 people were affected, again mostly girls.
“Similar outbreaks have occurred elsewhere in the Americas, particularly linked with Voodoo, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Odds are some kind of bacteria or naturally occurring toxin is affecting these people but until science
comes up with an answer we are left with only speculation,” continued Waites. “The question that is the most perplexing to scientists is that there is no obvious cause of the symptoms. Normally if there is a biological or chemical agent at work it’s relatively easy to diagnose but that just isn’t the case here. Outside the magical explanation, it is entirely possible that we are seeing a manifestation of a basic human condition that we have never seen before. It could be that we are intrinsically flawed as a species.”
Traditional assessments of madness, particularly on a large scale, is that it is a result of mental and emotional manipulation by and exterior force such as happened in Nazi Germany and occurs in cults. While psychologists point to basic human needs such as belonging and the metaphysical idea of weakness of the human spirit, the idea that human beings are genetically predisposed to madness is a new assortment.
“We have gone on the assumption for a long time that we are the most advanced and sophisticated species that has ever lived on the planet and that outbreaks of violence or other kinds of madness are a result of some kind of mental, physical, or emotional
flaw in the individuals involved. The possibility that we are not all that far removed
from the lower animals and capable of unexplainable outbursts is generally pooh-
poohed in intellectual circles, but these incidents show that may very well be the case,” continued Waites. “We work from the assumption that human beings are basically sacred vessels, a belief that is no doubt rooted in religion even for scientists, and that these kinds of outbreaks are abnormalities. It may be time that we have to rethink those ideas and accept that human beings may not be perfect after all and that we are natively prone to outburst of insanity. That would definitely go a long way to finally figuring women out.”
