AFRICA FINALLY STARTING TO FATTEN UP
December 18 2009
Nairobi, Kenya – It was less than thirty years ago when the continent of Africa seemed on the precipice. Drought and famine had taken hold of many nations threatening the very survival of many countries and shocking the world with the

images of children with massively distended stomachs. That crisis brought an outpouring of affection for the affected nations, best symbolized by the hit music single ‘We are the World’. Hit songs aside though, the crisis was severe, threatening to unhinge ancient nations and becoming a humanitarian crisis the likes of which we have never seen before.
There was a great deal of cynicism over those efforts through the eighties, many seeing it as simply do-gooders trying to appease their own consciences while doing little to actually solve the problems facing those countries. Much of that has proven to be true with failed nations abound, wars, ethnic cleansing, and HIV devastating the continent little was achieved by those food donations aside from temporarily filling a few stomachs. Despite the ongoing problems on the continent though the efforts of that decade seem to have had long term gains with many nations reporting record obesity, something that was totally unimaginable just a few years ago.
“Despite being the least urbanised continent, Africa's population is becoming increasingly urban and its cities are growing at unprecedented rates. In spite of
saidresearcher Abdhalah Ziraba. If trends continue as they have been between 1995 and 2007 in 2015 the number and prevalence of obese young people is projected to increase dramatically, and these increases will affect lower social classes to a larger extent. This will unfortunately provide us with the exact opposite problem that many countries had in the 1980’s because of the problems associated with obesity and health networks throughout the continent totally ill-equipped to deal with ailments associated with obesity.”
Another concern amongst many health officials is the stamina of many people and how that will be affected by growing waistlines, something that will be a major concern when new conflicts inevitably occur.
“Aside from running issues, hiding will also be an issue. Many of the people who initiate these conflicts stay away from high fat diets which means that they will be able to easily track down the more portly people. That

could become a major problem when things start to heat up again and will result in a lot more deaths,” continued Ziraba. “Graves will have to be wider, new coffins built.Countries throughout the nation have begun seeing massive influxes of pants with elastic waistbands, principally from the United States, a sight foreign to many.
“It could very well be that it’s been the plan to make everyone around the world fatter. Aside from the dollars you would gain from the food, bigger clothes cost more money and countries like the United States and China will benefit greatly from that,” said Scrape TV African analyst Claude Contee. “That could have been the motivation for that effort in the 1980’s and luckily it’s paid dividends. True none of the underlying problems in those countries were solved but at least people are well fed now, and starting to see the benefits of track pants.”
Researchers believe that in a few short years diabetes and heart disease will overtake ritual killings and murder-for-diamonds as leading causes of death throughout the continent.
