DOCTORS TO INVESTIGATE WHY HUGO CHAVEZ KEEPS SMELLING SULPHUR

Caracas, Venezuela – Hugo Chavez has certainly made a name for himself since entering the world stage a decade ago. His proclamations and outrageous statements have made him a target for both critics supporters of western-style Capitalism and
made him one of the most compelling leaders in the world. Much of the criticism is, for obvious reasons, from the United States which has been the source of the majority of his public declarations and the base for much of his popularity.
Chavez is for many reasons a very popular figure in his home country and while he has been accused of human rights abuses and mismanaging the economy and social network in the country, his dedication to the Venezuelan people has ensured an enduring affection at home no matter his profile in the rest of the world. It is because of that that the leader has fallen under the care of doctors after his latest declaration of smelling sulphur after a speech by President Obama. That follows a similar comment after a speech by George Bush at the U.N. in 2006, a pattern that has medical officials deeply concerned about the mental well being of the President and whether or not such smells could be related to an underlying medical condition.
“The President is a very proud man and he is generally unwilling to seek medical assistance and this case has been no different. The first time, with Bush, everyone just took it as symbolic but since it has happened again everyone is starting to get a little concerned and we really need him to get tested to ensure that it isn’t something more severe,” said a Venezuelan insider. “This incident with Obama isn’t the only one. He said it only a few days before when the janitor left his office and a few days before that after his secretary dropped off his coffee. We believe there may be something very much wrong with the President and we need him to seek medical attention.”
It’s unclear what ailment Chavez might be suffering from but some have speculated that it could be a result of high blood pressure that could eventually lead to a stroke.
“There are a number of ailments that could cause people to smell unusual things and none of them are very good. I can’t say as though I’ve heard of sulphur in particular but sometimes the smell is the result of personal experiences which are only brought to the surface when the brain misfires,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “Since this has occurred a number of times it would be advisable that he seek attention. I would frankly encourage any patient I saw with this number of incidents to undergo a brain scan immediately to rule out the possibility of something like a haemorrhage or blood clot. Barring that he could be suffering from mental illnesses such as schizophrenia which often causes hallucinations of this type.”
Some have suggested that Chavez may in fact be genuinely experiencing the presence of Satan on Earth but because of the variety of people he has experienced the smells with, it may be that Chavez himself is the one being possessed by the underworld.
“As a person of science I can’t say that such a thing is even possible but if indeed there is an afterlife and the devil does exist than it is certainly possible that he is somehow in contact with those elements whether he wants to be or not,” continued Phelps. “Medical science would have little answer to that if indeed he is being visited by Satan but we could probably do something about the symptoms, perhaps allow him to smell lilac or oleander, whatever he would prefer.”
Though he regularly speaks for hours on Venezuelan television, he has thus far only spoken in Spanish.
