TERRORIST GERRY ADAMS OPENS UP ABOUT TOUGH CHILDHOOD

December 22 2009

Belfast, Northern Ireland – Ireland has always been a tough place to live. Famines, conquerors, and internal strife have all plagued the tiny island for centuries. That has helped to make the people of the nation largely immune to the types of things that omagh bombing
would break lesser people. Much of that trouble in the last century has been related to the issue of Northern Ireland and the rise of militant organizations such as the IRA. That strife has largely subsided in recent years but for many the memory of bombings and assassinations are still fresh in their minds.

Gerry Adams is a man who knows all too well the hardship of being Irish. Born in Belfast, Adams as a young man saw his country torn apart by ‘The Troubles’, prompting him to try and engage the peace process. Eventually Adams would become leader of Sinn Fein, one of the largest political parties in the disputed territory. Sinn Fein too was also widely acknowledged as the political arm of the IRA, the terrorist group responsible for the bulk of the violence throughout the region. Now though, an accepted member of the North Ireland Parliament and a major player in the peace process, Adams has come to terms with his turbulent past, or at least most of it, acknowledging that his father abused he and his siblings as a youth.gerry adams

“I myself for a long time wanted this to be publicised because there is a culture of concealment. But we can only do this when everybody is strong enough to do it. And we don't do it for any other reason than a necessary step in the healing process in our own clan. And also other families who are in the same predicament or individuals who just feel this is the end of the world,” said Adams. “Personally that was one of the great dilemmas for me because I'm a republican. I'm speaking here as a human being, as a family member. I didn't want him buried with the tricolour. I think he besmirched it but it was a dilemma for other members of my family who felt that they didn't want this at that time out in the open. “

Adams’ father, Gerry Adams, Sr. was a volunteer in the IRA during the 1940’s. He was arrested and spent five years in prison for those actions.gerry adams

“It’s quite startling admission from Adams. His family is very well respected by the Republican movement in the country and so this comment on his character is quite bold and daring. I mean he was a man who dedicated his life to killing the English and seeding turmoil in his country but this revelation casts a shadow across all of that,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “The person you feel most sorry for is of course the younger Adam’s. It explains so much about his life and how he has lived it. I’m sure his critics will be singing a different tune now.”

Under Adams rule the IRA killed hundreds and had a nearly successful attempt to assassinate then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, someone who has already come out with sympathy for Adams.ira

“I mean it’s entirely possible that Adam’s senior was abused himself. These kinds of things tend to cycle through generations and can cause all sorts of deleterious effects. In light of this it’s possible that the entire terrorist movement in Ireland was a result of such abuse. Perhaps even all of terrorism itself is a result of childhood abuse,” continued Davids. “Perhaps all people like bin Laden ever needed is someone to listen to them, a shoulder to cry on. This could forever change the way we deal with the terrorist threat.”

It’s not clear if Adam’s children will also join the Republican movement in the North, or what their father has done to them.
