TONY BLAIR ADMITS HE WOULD HAVE GONE INTO IRAQ HIMSELF
December 14 2009
London, U.K. – Six years is a long time to come to terms with a lot of things. Memory tends to fade as time progresses, feelings become much less intense, we get over things, wounds heal. That is exactly what is starting to happen in Iraq six years

after the massive war that completely transformed the nation began. The government is stronger than ever, police and military forces are gaining control of the few rough and rugged regions of the country, and the people are starting to feel more comfortable with the threat of bombs more or less gone.
The war was a controversial one with two countries, the U.S. and the U.K. marching the war drum despite opposition from the majority of the world. While historians will analyze whether or not their bold venture to invade a sovereign nation that posed no threat to either country was a success at least one person has no regrets. That person is Tony Blair who led the United Kingdom into the controversial conflict despite objections domestically and from abroad. In the face of a very critical and potentially damning inquiry into the lead up to the war, Blair has empathically re-stated his dedication to the conflict and indicated that we would have literally gone it alone is needed.
“I mean obviously you would have had to use and deploy different arguments about the nature of the threat. I can't really think we'd be better with him and his two sons in charge, but it's incredibly difficult. That's why I sympathise with the people who were against it [the war] for perfectly good reasons and are against it now, but for me, in the end I had to take the decision,” Blair told the BBC. “This was obviously the thing that was uppermost in my mind. The threat to the region. Also the fact of how that region was going to change and how in the end it was going to evolve as a region and whilst he was there, I thought and actually still think, it would have been very difficult to have changed it in the right way. I could no longer stand by and allow the threat to continue and I would have gone in by myself if that had been my only option.”
Blair also stated that the existence or lack thereof of WMD’s would not have altered his decision. Blair is due to testify before the inquiry early in the new year.
“No one would expect Blair to come out and issue reproachful statements about the conflict. Aside from the fact that this is a major part of his legacy as Prime Minister I sincerely doubt that this was a decision that he took on lightly. Whether he was right or wrong is something that can be, and should be, debated but his decision was his own and he made it,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “This notion that he would have gone to war himself though is a totally different thing. Leaders of countries simply do not do that anymore. People like Napoleon, Alexander, King David, and Ramses all led their countries into battle but that has changed in the last hundred years or so. War has changed and so too has politics. It would have been something to see for sure.”
Blair spent no time in the armed forces and in fact spent his early life trying to be a musician, a far cry from the bloodthirsty leaders of the past such as Genghis Khan.
“Would he have simply led the troops into war? Would he have jumped on a plane with a 30-30 and gone after Saddam himself? This are tantalizing questions and the answers, while purely theoretical, could have changed a lot of what happened over the last six years,” continued Kinsey. “One man, alone, going against the combined power of the Republican Guard and the Iraqi Army seems a little Rambo but if he had been successful the people of Iraq would be a lot better off.”
Blair’s partner in the war, George Bush, spent time in the military during his formative years but likely would have been largely absent from the conflict if he had joined Blair.
